Aint this some crap?

Need help with a Gasser!

Some of you have probably heard of this. It's called the Paris Gun, mounted on dual railroad cars. Formerly known as the Kaiser Wilhelm Geschutz Long-Range Guns.

This is in the May edition of Popular Mechanics. Here are some facts:

*One was fired at Paris from 70 miles away in a forest

*The 264-pound projectiles soared 25 miles into the stratosphere, reaching the target 170 seconds later

*Guns were bored-out, 380mm naval cannons

*Each gun 131 feet long

*Each took a 400-pound powder charge

*Each shot sent a shock so intense, each succeeding chell needed to be slightly wider

*Gun lining had to be rebored every 20 shots

*Only half the 367 shells actually hit Paris

Another gun, called the Gustav Gun, was similar. This was the biggest gun in size, ever built.

*Weighed 1344 tons, including railway carriage

*4 stories tall, 20 feet wide, 140 feet long, including breech block

*Required a 500-man crew, including a major general to position, load, move, and maintain

*800mm bore, with 2 different shell sizes. A 10,584-pound high explosive shell, and 16,540-pound concrete-piercing shell.

*Range of 29 miles

*In April 1942, a Soviet city named Sevastopol was attacked by the Germans. One shot destroyed a Russian ammo dump hidden 100 feet below the city's military base.

Cool huh? :)
