The WA-1200-3 was outfitted with a new high lift boom, to load the 300 ton trucks.

Gene,the History Channel had a program last week that showed them making what they said was the world's largest loader,I can't remember the name of the company,but it wasn't Komatsu,maybe it was the largest US made. It had a Cat engine,each tire weighed 7 tons. An operator said he could run over a passenger car and not even feel it.

I "think" it can load a CAT 797 360 ton truck in 3 loads. Will have to look in the library.

The info I have here says the QSK60 is available in 2500, 2200, 2000, and 1600 HP ratings.

This specific CAT 994 wheelloader is rated at 1300 HP. They have a high altitude one that cranks out more, but I dont have the numbers here for it.

Operating weight for the 994 is 390,300 lbs.
Bucket range says 13. 0-40. 0 cubic yds.

Sounds like that hog Komatsu is biiger to me.

Our 3500 series engines range from 1000 hp for a small 8 banger diesel, all the way up to 3900 hp in a high powered 16 cylinder diesel. The QSK60 is sized between our 3500 and 3600 series engine I believe, but puts out power in the 3500 range only. A 3600 16 banger can crank out over 10,000 hp.

Surely not the biggest by a long shot, but I got to watch a CAT 992 up close and personal for about 20 minutes in a log yard. It had my undivided attention because it was so loud and quick !!!! Shook the deck, handled logs like pencils, copious black smoke, and it had fierce power to the wheel when yanking on the log deck #ad

Hey, I built the motor in that beast!!

The 992 is a very popular loader, and our second biggest, we sell quite a few. The 8 cyl engine in it is the same as the 8cyl in the huge D11 dozer (with the exception of a few different mods), which is our biggest dozer. The 994 I was talking about earlier is the biggest loader, with twice as much motor (I built it also).

I belive Hitachi builds the largest hydralic excavator it is model EX5500
It has a weight of 1,140,000 lbs. you can get it in a front shovel (35. 5 cubic yards)
or a backhoe (38 cubic yards) and it is cummins power with 2- kta50-c with total horse power of 2600 and total torque of 7780ft. lbs. you can see it at www.hcmacorp.com/mining/ex5500.html

It blows my mind that a VCR company and tinker toy cars can jump into the heavy equipment market and be competitive!

Chad, care to explain this one to us? Japanese eguipment ain't cheap, and parts sometimes are a long ways off. The advantage should be with Cat, JD, and so on.
Then again, Cat probably OWNS all the little companys anyway.

Just because its big, doesnt mean its good. Lots of the big equipment people cant get the equipment to run quickly enough to be as efficient as the trucks they are loading/unloading.

Kind of like that big tracked vehicle NASA has to move the shutle around with. It might be HUGE, but its always needing work done to it, and it cant get out of its own way. There are compromises to be had when building big equipment, and its hard to find a company that has the best of both worlds. Take that big CAT 797 I am such a fan of. It can outrun what use to be our biggest truck (793) in the quarter mile (yes, they do 1/4 mile test... cool or what)loaded or unloaded. Thats amazing.

CAT has it made because they have their hands in so much. They build engines, equipment, generators, turbine engines, heck, you can even buy CAT boots at WAL-MART. They are everywhere.

I have been very hapy with both our cat and Hitachi equipment they are both reliable and we have excellent Dealers for both. Are first Hitachi went 10years and just shy of 12000 hrs. and the only major repair was a water pump. i do know that there are 5 of the Hitachi Ex3500 in the gold mines in Nevada they are very happy with
