The shock bushings on my 98 are pounded out. The shocks are not doing there job because of the inch or so of movement and the way I can grab them and they flop around. Anyways I had a front end inspection and wheel aligment and everything seems just ducky. Checked everything out this afternoon, jacking up each tire and doing all the standard checks for tie rod end and trac bar and ball joint play. I never would have thought worn shocks could cause tire wear problems..... but it must be true! What is going on that a worn shock could cause tire wear????

Depends on what you call tire wear. Bad shocks can cause the tire to kind of hop and jump, not maintaining smooth contact with the road. This can cause the tire to wear irregularly, generally described as cupping.

If your tires are feathered or worn at the inside or outside edge, something else is going on.
