Worn tie rod ends - at what point do they fail?

My tie rod ends have a lot of slop in them and are causing wandering and tire wear, but no death wobble. It's time to go with the 08 steering upgrade.



My question is... . how bad do the tie rod ends get before they fall off? I'm just concerned about getting through the next week or so while the parts are shipping. I've been driving her about 100 miles a day all along and still have control, but just don't want one to fall off while on the road.

They are about $60+ or - each and really simple to swap out. To me its worth the few bucks to change out. Better safe than stranded or worse...

I'm gonna get the 08 upgrade kit, but I am just concerned with the old ones in the meantime.
