Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Worst case scenerio for APPS?

I'm headed to Texas from Ohio Friday and i want to find out what the worst case scenerio is if my APPS decides to go completely out? Will I have no start, will it die while driving down the highway: what have you guys seen when apps goes dead. Below are my symptoms, I'd appreciate any thoughts b/c if i need to change out the apps I need to order it tomorrow b/c dealers around columbus don't stock it. Thanks for the info... .



I've had a dead pedal off and on for several months now. I thought it was caused by my comp but lately I'm leaning torwards it being my APPS. If I unplug my comp completely I get no acceleration at all, just barely enough rpm lift to allow me to slowly get up to speed and shift. Even when i'm driving down the highway and unplug I instantly have no throttle response. When the dead pedal comes when I have the comp on, I just turn it off and then back on to get instant throttle. I've changed my map and checked my grounds. I've also had some VP44 work done last month so it should be that thankfully. The only code I'm getting is a P0237 that comes on and off after so many starts. I'm building about 22lbs boost at WOT, about right since I'm running at 16cm non-wastegated housing. Fuel pressure is at steady 11psi at 70mph so its not the lift pump.



Think I should chance it or bite the bullet??

Mine has never gone out due to a problem, but a while back while removing a Banks box, I forgot to replug the main plug under the APPS. The truck started right up and idled great, but nothing else. When I stepped on the pedal it just moved but no engine response. We drive by wire with these things and I'm guessing that if your APPS goes, you will not have any pedal response either.

Hav you tried getting the ECM to re-learn the throttle position sensor? it is a simple process.

Are you talking about resetting the APPS by leaving batteries cables off 20 minutes then pressing acc. pedal down slowly w/ key at on position? I did this last week when I changed my oil/fuel filters and it only helped for a short while. I've also cleared the code at autozone just to have them come back shortly after.



If that is not the process you are talking about, could you please explain??

I had a problem with mine about 2 years ago. It would go completely to a dead throttle for about 40 seconds or so. I first removed all the grounds and ground any paint or corrosion off and then replaced all the grounds. Did the reset on the APPS and no further problems for about 1 year then it came back. I did the grounds again and reset and everything back to normal. I thought about the $100. 00 for the electronic filter but I can not see that because it was fine when it was new so it has to be something happening over time. The way I see it is something deteriorated I felt that it was the ground process. The last fix I did was installed a secondary ground from the hole (that I tapped) in the front of the APPS directly to the battery on the drivers side. It has been about 8 months since I did this and the trans has shifted like day one and no APPS problems what so ever. I fully believe I have fixed my problem.

Can you give us more details about what you did and how you did it? I have reset my APPS probably a half dozen times now and each time it lasts for a while then the erratic shifting comes back. I have cleaned and tightened all grounds which seems to work for a while too... . but then back it comes.

Just a few thoughts FWIW. I cleaned the connections so many times on my '99 that the hold in the battery cables gor enlarged. Therefore the cables were not getting a good bite on the battery. Thought my batteries were bad and had them checked. They were OK.



I took the cables off, took out the pinch bolt, and used a hacksaw blade to widen the gap in the cables. i then removed all terminal wires that bolt to the batttery and cleande them with a wire brush. I put it all back together and coated it with ignition / battery sealer.



Reste the APPS an good to go. transmission shifted better started and ran good. No porblems for several months. When I traded it in it was still duning great.



Just my experience.
