Ended up buying a set of BFGoodrich 265-75-15 E Rugged Trail, and boy you talk about lousy. Noisy out of box and as heavy as my truck is (8620 lbs) terrable on wet roads worse in snow/slush 2400 miles and I think NWT is gonna get them back!

Just wanted to keep anyone else from making the same error in judgement!

I'm not to happy with my nitto terra graplers. They do have rather ok wet traction and snow. . But ware and traction under power (dry), they tend to spin, but fail to even make noise!

I'm about 1/2 way down in my tred at 10,000 miles. new tires before next winter is a sure thing.

If you are looking for a new set of tires following those I just put on a set of Kumho New Venture A/T KL78 37x14. 50R18. Super quiet ride really nice and were only $186 a tire on tire rack. Not much wet surface here in del rio but what little I've seen have been a hige improvement over the procomp M/T I had before these.

I was a bit apprehensive about them but I figured for the cost I'd give em a whirl and have been extremly pleased

Denny,

I have the same tires as you 265/75/16 E rated on my 01 and mine are not noisey but I hear you on the wet stuff, mine are down right dangerous on wet roads, I can't wait for them to wear out.

The one good thing about them is they have wore evenly and mine have just over 40K miles on them and look good for another 20K (Unfortunate for me but good for the tire)

I am going with the Bridgestone Dueler A/T revo's in a E rating when they finally go, had them on my dually before I sold it and they are great in the wet and dry.

I am running a set of 285/75/16 Toyo Open Country A/T and i love em. They have about 10,000 miles on them now and I did have them siped when they were new from Les Schwab. Best tires I have ever bought.

Sure hope I don't have similar issues with my Toyo M55-285's - just installed this morning - no discernable road noise, and sure nice looking tread design - 10 ply rated, load range "E"...

Sure a tight fit under the bed for the spare tho! :-laf

About $211 each on sale at Les Schwab...

I'll second that. The Toyo A/T's are great in the rain, the snow, and going 95mph down the highway. I've tried BFG's, Nokian's, Michelin's, Big-zeros and the Toyo's far surpass all of em.

Hi Gary Im runnin the same tire in a 265 They seem to wear great on the front the rear is a little hard on em. I did get in on the recent group buy for the wheel balancers, I hope to keep them wearing even. I do like the tires.

Interesting selection of tires there Gary. Planning some serious off-roading with the 2-wheel drive? :-laf

Revos

Adjuster - - - Had a set of Revos, (265. 75R. 16 E) and they were good for 15000 miles then got real noisy. Life was extra good with over 50k miles and still usable except of the noise. I thinkd the best all round are the Bridgestone Dualer A/T pretty quiet, never got stuck along a railroad bed, and life of 50/60k miles

NAH - just wanted better tires for the ice and snow here at the new place - the Michelins wore great, but were lousy in slick stuff. I also wanted a slightly higher (lower?) drive ratio to allow a more usable 5th gear on these Oregon mountain roads - too hard to maintain decent road speed towing in 6th, so a more usable 5th gear is a plus.

Besides, these particular tires seem sorta tame compared to the more aggressive traction tires Toyo makes - and these seem dead quiet on the road so far.

Running 35/12. 5/17 Toyo open country MTs and have 30k on them. About half worn now and they've been the best tire ever. Load E too!

Gary (and others running the M55s),

I hope you have better luck than I am with the mileage. I have about 23K on mine and they will need to be replaced before next winter. I had them siped to hopefully improve tread life (run cooler) as well as wet weather traction. I like the tire. But they aren't lasting.

Same thing happened with the previous ones, Toyo Open Country A/T. They lasted just over 20K.

Both were 285/75-16. I don't race or tow and usually run empty. I'm not a hot rodder by nature, so I haven't been hard on them. But I am getting frustrated with tires. This is the 3rd set of tires that I've used up in 25K miles or less. The first ones were some Les Schwab brand.

Gary,

I suspect mine are going to require relacement around 25K, hopefully 30K. No doubt they will offer the traction you are looking for. With the exception of wet concrete, I have been pretty happy with their traction, bolt an large ammo can full of something heavy behind your wheel wells and you will have no problems. Hope they work great for you.

Reason I went to these specific tires, was that my brother in law - the one with the '01 Dodge, uses them, and gets 40-50K from his in his use - sure hope mine hold up decently - we'll see! The tire shop guys claim about 40K in typical use.

Gary, let's get a picture of the 285's from the outside... .

Sure - I'll post one later today.

tires

The tires I like very much are the Michelin M/S 235/85 16's they are good in snow and even mud ( where I go hunting up about a 15% grade so very pleased there.

The one gents spare tire looks very close to the exhaust so hope it doesn't melt the tire ??? I would wrap it with some sort of temperature cloth.

... And to the heat issue with the exhaust pipe, I agree, and have inserted some multi-layer Aluminum to shield the tire, and will keep a close eye on it!
