I have a question, does anyone make injectors for the first generation trucks that are NOT intercooled. My 90 is non-intercooled but I haven't found anyone selling injectors for them. I do realize the truck is 14 years old but... ... . is it outdated and not worth bombing for sake of finding parts? Are there any other hard to find bombing pieces/parts that make it not worth while to bomb? Will the injectors for the 91-93 work in this motor? What to do... ... ... . thanks for replies... ... Don

The injectors for the 91. 5-93 intercooled trucks will work in the 89-91 trucks. They require an adapter on the nozzle. I know PDR sells the adapter and I'm sure other places to as well.

BTW, the highest HP any one is claiming for a first gen is out of a non-intercooled truck with a work bed on it. Talk about a sleeper!! Last I heard he had dyno'd 486 and had recently broke 100 mph in the 1/4 mile.

So YES it is worth BOMBing!

Don't take a "stock" 91. 5 - 93 injector and put it in an earlier truck.

The 89 - 91. 5 trucks already had a 'hotter' injector... it is equivalent to the Bosch 185 injectors that the later 1st Gen trucks bought to improve their performance.

You can use the POD injectors and you will need the adaptors for them. I believe the adaptors are about $8. 00 each.

Use some care when uprating the non-intercooled engines... . the heads were prone to cracking between the injector bore and the valve seat because the injector body was larger (9mm) than the later 1st Gens. . (7mm).

So long as you watch your EGT's and don't abuse it too much you should be ok. Better yet get yourself a good 12 valve head and avoid all the hassles... . a new 12 valve head, bowl ported and O-Ringed are a smokin deal at PDR. They flow almost as much as a Stage 1 head.

Pastor Bob... . I am associated with PDR... .

I would replace the head if it cracks... maybe put a little money aside just in case, but I wouldn't rush out to replace it...

get an EGT gauge and put some POD's in it... it'll feel like a brand new truck! :D

I agree with this as well.

I'm currently doing injector research and all the places want to sell me the 185s... until I point out again that those won't help a non-intercooled engine. Then they agree and talk PODs.

I just don't want all the smoke the PODs are notorious for.

And look at it this way... . if the head cracks, replace it with a modern head and the the injectors will still fit... without the adapters!!

This is an interest of mine as well. Would I be better off to update to a newer style head have it studded and all that good stuff or buy POD's w/ injector adaptors? Whats some of the benefits of the new style head? How much $$ are we looking at for this update? Thanks Bill

Bill,

Go to PDR site. Piers has heads that are ready to go. They have the O-rings and I think they have been prted a little as well as larger valves. I'm not sure what all is on them so the best thing you can do is to go to the web site and check them out. Price is there as well.

Well, I just went to the PDR site to check what is on the heads. They have 3 stages. There is a chart that shows the airflow improvement for each stage. Didn't see the price but I think it is around $1500. you will need to contact them to see what the full story is. I have been thinking of getting one as well but it might be hard to explain to the wife since the truck is already running VERY good.
