I am about ready to buy a 2002 3/4 ton diesel after my plant tour of the new 2003 diesels. not cause i didn't like what i saw, but the rebates are up to $2500 on the 2002's.

Question is...

what should I ask for my rig i have now?

specs:

99 3/4 ton long bed, quad cab, 4x4

leather, cd, power all,

AUTO :{ , all stock, course diesel,

98,000 miles, service logs with purchase...

new tires w/ 6000 miles on them

so what do you all think?

nope, i hate it and wish it would die a cold and miserable death

:D :D :D

Really though, the damn thing will not shift until 2k rpm, and waits till exactly 42 mph to shift to 4th gear, not to mention that the towing sucks... .

ALSO, i am buying a NEW 2002 QC, 4x4, 5-spd,

msrp=35190,

my final price = 27,343. 00 !!!!!!!

HOW CAN I PASS THAT UP?

enough of my rattling on, also i heard the new 2003 diesel, and i don't like it cause i would have to wait to bomb it :(

southbend, here I come (that pump wire better watch out)

Wow! From what I read on the forum is that the auto will do ok towing up to a certain limit. I am considering an auto. Should I stay away from them? Only lite towing of 6,000 lbs i will be using it for.

Jeepit, based on what I've seen, you shouldn't have a problem with 6K lbs. I know a guy who tows his Travel Trailer with an auto and it weighs in at 7. 5K lbs... no probs at all. He put on a deeper transmission pan and a temp gauge, and no other BOMB's.

HTH.

Jeepit, unless you start really adding HP and torque to the motor the auto trans will survive for quite a while. I have heard that the stock 47RE can handle up to a TST#6 plate with no problems or a #5 plate as long as you are sane with your foot. My 47RE trans went 103K before the torque converter disintegrated and sent shrapnel through the rest of the transmission. Since I got it used at 68K I assume it was used for hauling by the previous owner since there were pop-in hitch rails installed and obviously used. I have routinely towed 9-12K loads with stock engine and trans without any signs of problems. Now that I am improving the output ot the motor I will also be improving the trans as necessary.

Don't be afraid of the auto unless you are looking to hotshot or drag race. Then, you will have to go to an aftermarket trans (or at least components) to allow it to survive the motor's output. Bottom line is that the motor is stronger than the trans, manuals included. A little common sense goes along way to making these trucks unbeatable in performance and reliability.

I wish I had gotten a 6 speed transmission and found the TDR before I bought an auto trans. I don't tow a lot of weight, so I don't think I'm going to have a problem for a while. I do want to put an EZ on it though.
