so I'm sitting @ light in town when a powerjoke pulls up next to me, I'm thinking "right on!! it's go time"Oo. I hear him rev his V8 so I knew it was on. The light goes green and i light him up like the 4TH and leave him in a Smokey cloud of shame, I go WOT from 2nd gear through 4th, running 4th out @ about 3200rpms.

It was @ this point I realized I was coming up on a left hander i needed to take really fast, so I lift from WOT to no throttle while at the same time pressing the clutch pedal down and slamming on the binders. This is when the mighty CUMMINS decided to go to sleep:{ After about 3-4 times of cranking her over for about 10-15 sec. a pop she came alive. It ran really rough for about 20 sec. @ 450+- rpms then cleared up and ran like normal?? I had good fuel pressure and decent egts the whole time:confused:

please help me figure out what went wrong:{

sounds like you airlocked it--you did, but not enuff to not get it to start--sometimes you will need to bleed 3-4-5 injectors to get it to start--this happens with the bigger injectors and when you let up on the smoke pedal abruptly at WOT--chris

I found this is a lot more fun when coming up on a 90* corner going to fast. Helps you remember all the little stuff from when you were a kid. As your life flashes before your eyes.

well i'm glad to here that its nothing major:D boy I'll tell you what, 7500lbs. going about 70mph is a son of a b$#ch to stop with no power brakes, those injectors should come with a disclaimer or something " caution, after smoking ford be shore to deploy parachute before attempting to stop":p note to self, don't lift off soot pedal abruptly:D thanx for your help on figuring this out

your lucky, I was taking my friends for a test drive and put my foot in it. The transmission goes all th eway through third, but doesn't shift to fourth. I let up on the throtle and realize that the motor died. Come to find out (after many attempts to restart the truck) I had fried the injector pump. All kinds of fun.

Sounds to me you are drawing air

Into the fuel delivery system,at high engine loads you are drawing more fuel in the VP44 than you are delivering to it so a vacuum is developed between the delivery pump and the injection pump. Sounds like you need the fuel Preporator to get rid of air and increase the volume to the injection pump. I had resistors installed on my lift pump to control pressure. By dropping the resistance to the pump I was able to increase fuel pressure. When I ran my system on 17lbs of pressure i'd run into air getting pulled into the injection pump when I increased the pressure to 22lbs the problem disappeared. That being said you may be pulling air before the lift pump. If thats the case raising the pressure wont fix anything. Raising the pressure may make things worse. Also check your fuel filter. Merv

i had been meaning to upgrade my 2nd pusher pump that i put on back by the tank for awhile (napa special) and this weekend i finally got the carter that i order from summit :) i put her in and pressure now sits at 25psi all the time!! if anybody is interested in this pump let me know and i'll find the part #. it cost $85, its made to supply fuel to 500hp alchol cars, the supermentals and comp dont faze it a bit. that should solve my vacume blues :)

puffincoal,

I have the same problem. with the truck shutting down after letting off the throttle. then I couldn't get the truck started so finally I had some one pull start me. I have a Fass system installed and that sure doesn't help my problem. I also have a problem when I have the pedal down the truck surges and you can watch the boost jump up and down by around 3or 4 psi I haven't put a fuel pressure gauge on yet b/c it hasn't came in yet. So I'm glad that I'm not the only one having that problem. but I need a way to fix it.

the problem is you're asking the VP44 to shove every last bit of fuel into the injectors and then when you let off the go pedal abruptly an air pocket develops, cuz you've shut down the fuel supply from very heavy to idle--it happens when you have big injectors and a fueling box---to my knowledge there's nothing that can fix this except your right foot--you just need to bleed 3,4 and maybe #5 injectors until it starts---chris

If you run the Fass pump in stock condition you only have 8-10 psi. You can get a spring from Fass(Brad) that will put you at 20psi.

My truck will do this with only DD2's. It used to only happen while the comp was on 5x5 but now it will do it on 3x5. My injectors are about 30000 miles old. Is it just the nature of the beast or is it possibly weakening pop-off pressures?

This should be tied in with the ( My turbo let go threads) The other problem with slamming the throttle shut is snapping the shaft on your turbo. Doing that with anything bigger than a HX-35 and its just a matter of time.
