Speedometer/odometer problem

Hey guys... . the recent threads of things like water/rad hoses etc. have given me a thought... . scary ain't it... ;)

Would anyone be willing to do a little project on some of this stuff ??

Specifically would anyone do a research project and post the source, part type/location and part numbers for the all the coolant hoses ... even the little ones on the heater tubing.

This is something that we are ALL going to need to know as these old girls get grumpy.

Also, is there any other similar project that could be done ??? ... . ideas on that???

pb... .

I'm going to be replacing the thermostat in the next couple days. That should get me at least near all those parts. I can take notes and get part numbers while I'm chasing stuff down.

Yeah,

I have been searching for a kit to get all those hoses together and replace at one time.

I can try Napa, I guess it would have to be a piece by piece "kit"

Ok, Bushy, here's the data on one area - the Heat Exchanger that trades heat back and forth between Engine Coolant and Transmission Fluid.

You know, the bottle-looking thing on the passenger side of the engine under the exhaust manifold and turbo, only on trucks with automatic transmissions.

The pictures are in my gallery under AutoTrans/EngineCoolant.

The male in & out fittings on the bottom of the bottle are standard -8 AN fittings; this is for transmission fluid. The pipe size connecting these fittings to the transmission is 1/2"OD thin-wall pipe.

The fittings on the ends of the bottle are 5/8" OD for a short length of rubber hose (5/8" ID, of course) to the 5/8" OD pipe going to the engine. Hose clamps hold the hose in place. On the end at the engine, there's another short length of hose with hose clamps attaching it to the engine coolant stack.

Is this the sort of thing you were looking for?

Outstanding... !!!!!!!... ... You guys DO realize that we're contributing/building what is likely the single largest database on the early CTD's in existence ... . :D:D

If one or two would like to team up and coordinate/colate a/the list(s) of their choice that would make it esier to incorporate into a new/existing sticky thread.

pb

I have in my possession a Chrysler Corp. 1988-89 Dodge Truck parts catalog, with schematics. Part numbers and every detail down to the nuts and bolts. The part numbers you give from it will have been updated but it sure beats asking for that thingy majig...

I'd be happy to coordinate/work with whoever, let me know.

Not wanting to violate any copyright laws of course, but...

I have access to a copier/scanner and can make pdf files of anything very quickly... . especially if it can be fed into a copier...

If that capability helps it's available.

Ok, let me run the 'copyright' issue to Robin/Steve just to make sure we're on the safe side of the fence... .

I think we'll need to "qualify" the posting of copyrighted material by including a disclosure... such as... "taken from... ... . ".

Just let me double check... ... . in the mean time, have at 'er guys...

I asked everyone last year if they wanted any silicone hose sets when I was making them... ... No one seemed too interested then... ?????? I am done with the project now . Sorry everyone missed the boat.....

Anyway, the member in question (mysteryman) phoned me today to let me know he made it home in one piece. I have to admit that the response was awesome... . no excuses or "I'd like to but... " you guys rock ... .

I have replaced most of the cooling hoses at one time or another on the 91 I recently sold, (I-C style cooling til recently), and have parts listed in my notebook at home- including the t-stat housing. I will try to think of it at the house, and bring the list to the shop and edit this post later next week.

Here are some numbers from Napa:

7296- A small piece with a 90* on one end and enough extra to make the connection down at the oil cooler.

8620 Upper rad hose

8327 Lower rad hose

H504 Heater hose, cut to length... . need 3 foot or so?

Let me know if I forgot something. I was in a hurry... . I do some more digging. There is possible that we need two of the first number- little 90*- napa had it listed twice.

Napa couldn't come up with boost hoses.

More later

You DO need two of the 90* critters for the engine/transmission heat exchanger. Of course, it's unlikely that both will fail at the same time.

See pictures of the heat exchanger in my gallery.
