I just recently had my buddy install a hx35 turbo/12cm housing,3 inch custom air intake horn as i am non ic. He turned the full fuel screw in 2 turns it runs great for being in a suburban but is there anything else i can safely do to make it run better? I haveseen on this site about a 3200 gov spring will this be a good mod? Any suggestions would be great owe i almost forgot he adjusted the timing for better perfromance as well.

Thanks chris Oo.

jeez, you must be really power hungry. with the mods on my truck im more than happy. have you considered a 4 inch exhaust?

Time to mess with your afc. There is alot of info if you search on this site or check out other sites like tst for info. I would start by taking off the top of the afc and pull out the cone and turn the starewheel down a few turns. Then put the cone in the bore so that the pin can come out farther. Then turn the smoke screw in a couple turns. I'm sure that somebody will give you better directions and pictures if you need them but in the meantime you can search those words and probably find everything you need. Beware it's a slippery slop your looking out over ;) Good luck

Rotate the fuel pin, shave the washer that slides over the fuel pin or buy a custom ground fuel pin for the most bang. With a non ic truck I would ditch that 12 cm housing in a second and put on a 16 cm housing.

Unless I missed it, I did not read anything concerning the injectors. You need a full gauge set including a fuel pressure gauge to monitor how much fuel you are consuming in relationship to power, not so much with fuel economy. The boost gauge gives a real good indication of power made and used. However the fuel supply pressure gauge will do the same.

The small exhaust housing works real well in some applications and not so in others. It all depends on what you use it for and how you want it to perform in that roll.

My use of this vehicle is mostly for towing a 21 foot daycriuser jetboat maybe

5,000lbs with the family loaded up to go to lake mead or lake havasu city. I also use this truck to tow 2 quads when i go hunting i would guess maybe 2500 lbs with the trailer. On injectors i was under the impression that in the non ic motors they already had decent sized injectors an buying pod's would not get me that much more of an advantage power wise for the investment? I may be wrong? I will be ordering guages asap but need to figure out a setup for them to go into my suburban. I was thinking on getting a pyro, boost

and fuel pressure guage. Also what would be the advantage of going with a 16 cm housing versus what i have now 12 cm?

Thanks

I was thinking on getting a pyro,boost

That was my point. . since you didn't mention these I kind of figured you didn't have them. ;)

Keep your foot light until you do esp the pyro so you don't do any internal damage. Plus the boost gage will give you a good indication of power improvements.

PODs will give you more power than the stock non ICs. The 185s and 190s are about a wash compared to the non ICs.

The pyro is real important if you are pulling anything.

I upgraded my turbo recently (fuel turned up some) and my first reaction was "wow, this runs better", then "crap, EGT's get hot fast", then "cools down fast. "

With no pyro (or good advice from wise folks here) I would have climbed, WOT, until it melted.

16cm vs 12cm

The 16cm housing will allow more top end flow, thus reducing your EGT while towing. And, based on my experience with a ported 18 vs a 12, you wont lose that much spoolup. I am considering selling my 14 and going back to the ported 18 til I can get a 16. Wont sell til I swap and check MPGs and EGTs- the important stuff.

when you get your pyrometer, since you have more than stock fuel, put the probe for it in the manifold. That way, you can push it farther and know when you are about to melt stuff down.

Okay i will be ordering my guages soon what is the maximum temps for egt i can go to before i melt the motor? What kind of temps should i be seeing with my setup?

Thanks Chris

I would keep it under 1300 in the manifold for towing use. There are too many variables to have a set guide of what you "should" see. I like to see 100deg for every 10mph on flat ground while empty.

Boost depends on housing size, fuellig, timing, etc.
