Hey guys, I wonder if you would help confirm that the intercooler for our trucks is no longer being made, or available.

My brother had one on order for 4 weeks, when he went in to check on delivery date, he was told that DC had cancelled his order they were no longer available.

Would a couple of you guys call your local dealer(s) and confirm this? Double confirm if they say they can actually get them, and from were if possible.

Without them we'll either have to buy used, rebuilt, or Banks = $$

I'd like to add any firm info into the "discontinued parts" forum depending on the answer.

Thanks guys. .

Bob:

Called local stealer, Dodge Part Number 52004272, Charge Air Cooler Assembly, list price $775 (US), is coded no longer available from Dealer network. Only ones out there would be if a dealer had one in inventory. I asked if they could approach their contacts with Dodge to see if they could find out the source for the part to determine where we may be able to get them in the future. Parts counter has been helpful in the past, so maybe I'll hear something soon.

But your worst fears have been confirmed:mad:

Going by the sig you put on your truck. Yes you do have a intercooler on yours. At the 91. 5 year model of trucks. Dodge added the intercooler. The auto with over drive and a few other small items.

Is that p/n for the whole system, or just the "radiator" part? Are we talking about retrofitting an early truck without one, or just repair/replacement parts?

Thanks guys, if anyone comes across a company or service outlet that can supply these let us know and post the info in this thread. I'll compile the info and repost to the discontinued parts forum from there.

The part number and item that is being discussed here is the intercooler itself, basically the "radiator" for the compressed turbocharged air going to the intake manifold.

It's main purpose is to help cool that compressed (and subsequently hotter) air before it enters the intake manifold.

After only 12-13 years parts are not being supported. I find that to be pretty dissapointing. I always thought there was some sort of law/legislation that parts need to be made accessible for 20 years... maybe I'm wrong but that is what my recollection is.

Bob.

If I recall correctly OEM parts are only required (in the US)to be supported for 10 years after the part was last used in a production vehicle. Now since we both have late model 93s I'd say they fell a little short on that but who you gunna fight?

Has any one had a CAC re-cored? I thought someone posted an online radiaror supply that sold CACs?

this may help

hi

after dealing with this kind of thing for years

my guess is this cooler fits something else as well

but has a differnt part number this is why it is hard to

find.

i dont have the time to search now but i do have some ideas

1)search manufactures

like

dura-lite

modine

go dan

spearco

http://www.turboneticsinc.com/spearco/more.html

2)remember this one part has a lot of names in the real world

charge air cooler(mostly in truck heavy equipment)

intercooler

aftercooler

air cooler

compressed air cooler

intake air cooler

turbo air cooler

air raidator

3)look at body shop suppliers

4)call cummins

5)radiator shops

one link i found

http://www.wightman.ca/~clements/coolers.html

6)some times you can search by dimention

i wish i had time to find it for you but this is how i would start

bob

p. s. and this link a guy says he bought one for 200. 00cdn

but does not say location or when

I bought the banks intercooler kit for my early 1991. I think that I got it for $800, So this is not too bad compared to the dodge unit. What is the general impression of the banks unit compared to the stock unit?

If I recall correctly OEM parts are only required (in the US)to be supported for 10 years after the part was last used in a production vehicle.

I work for a company that makes steering intermediate shafts. We still make service parts for vehicles from the late 70's... remember the Pinto, Torino, etc? We still make 'em from time to time and Ford pays big for it!!!

Wish we could get away with quitting after 10 years... . old, low volume srvice parts are a pia actually.....

Sorry, rambling again. Time for a pill.

FWIW-

I know of a junk yard in Greeley CO that used to have 15-20 first getn diesels at any given time. This WAS a few years ago(3?). I will look up their number. It seems like when I was there, there were a few intercoolers still in the trucks. The engines had been taken out, but the CAC's were still in a few. It is Riverside Truck Parts or something to that effeect. THey seemed to have good prices. HAve to ask yourself if they guarantee them or not.
