The water pump gasket on my 04. 5 is weeping, so I have a nice pink trail of coolant residue down the block, and all over the sway bar and nearby parts. I need to make a 1500 mile run this coming weekend, and I don’t think I will get my truck into the dealer in time, so I would like to carry a spare water pump gasket with me in case it fails. I would prefer the Cummins number; I try to avoid the dealerships. Also, where is a good source for a factory service manual?

Thanks!

Peter

the best manual will be found on Ebay, you might have to look for a bit.

I got one for my '01 on a CD.

was about $10 and has 2255 pages of genuine DC manual on it.

I keep a copy on my laptop so I have it on the road.

Here's a link to a site that I've found usefull for finding parts, some have a picture to help.

I did a quick check for your water pump gasket, looks like $1. 35 will do it.

The fun starts when it's time to change it.

On the data plate there should be a CPL # and engine serial number that is 8 digits. Quickserve didn't recognize any of those numbers.

3906698 is the rubber gasket Part Number

3959229 is the water pump part number

4089142 is the complete water pump kit which includes water pump, gasket and 2 mounting capscrews. All this is off Quickserve online.

Be careful in your diagnosis as I have seen very few water pump gaskets leaking, may be the water pump itself as I believe the weep hole is now hid to where it looks like a gasket leak and is actually coming out the weep hole.

like to have the address for "quickserve online"

:D

I'm under the impression that it's a Cummin's service?

please let me know if I'm off base or not

thanks

57195915 is your engine serial. You were missing a digit above. Keep it handly, as Cummins can't tell you crap if they don't have it.

Quickserve is for anybody... http://quickserve.cummins.com

Click on the engine owners link, and enter your engine serial number and you're set.
