POLL: Is Torque Important?

Just stumbled on this thread, very interesting to me. I’m out in the Seattle area and King County Metro Transit started buying 230 or so new 60' articulating buses that are powered by Allison Transmission’s Hybrid Electric drive with a CAT C9. The elect drive has 2 75kw motor/gen + 330HP from the diesel. The regenitive braking is awesome, it will bring 50,000lbs of bus almost to a stop from 65mph in no time. And they out accelerate any other bus out there (good thing they have traction control, cause they will spin the tires on wet pavement!). The sys allows the bus to run on 100% batt power while in the downtown bus tunnel for near 0 emissions, and not have to stop and hook up to external power in the tunnel like some of their other buses. After working with this technology for the last 5 months I think there is real promise for smaller applications. For new product they have been fairly trouble free.
