I've been looking for a good used truck since I had to sell my '04 3500. (divorce).

I was looking 95-98 cummins manual trans club/quad cab 200K miles give or take... . which is right in my budget.

BUT I found a truck on e-bay (yes I'm very aware of the perils of e-bay) that's a 2000 and fits all my other criteria. Biggest issue is that it's in Texas and I'm in Florida. The seller is a car dealer and has super good feedback and the truck is listed "Buy it now... OBO" for $8990... bluebook is around $14K. It needs tires and has some dings and dents but with 190K miles it's to be expected and it's nothing I couldn't have fixed or even just live with it.

Would you try and get it if you were in the same situation? Now I'd have to have it shipped to me and am also aware of the cost involved there... and obviously I couldn't go look at it (based on my work schedule etc)... but with such good feedback I'm not worried much about that.

Any opinions are appreciated.

Thanks!

I purchased my 97 on ebay from Texas about 3 years ago sight unseen and had it shipped to Fresno, California area. . It was from a dealer also, in the Dallas area. Cost me less for him to ship it thur his shipper ($700) than on ebay ($1200).

I got a good deal and it turned out OK. The truck driver told me that some people have him return the vehicle when they see it, usually because they get rock chips during shipping. Check it out carefully when you pick it up. Talk to the dealer about how you can return it if not satisfied and have it checked by a mechanic when you get it.

I was satisfied with mine. I had to replace the tail light bulbs, gas tank sending unit, and fix the backup light switch but I feel I got a good deal.

Good luck,

Dave

got mine on Ebay (Dallas TX) for a good price and that meant there was stuff that needed to be taken care of, but that was no biggie :)

Like said: if you want somebody to go take a look at it for you, post up where it is located :)

Gotta watch out for the trucks that where involved in the recent hurricanes, just make sure there is no water damage. Just my 2 cents ...

I think I may just hold off. If this one is this price... if I can be patient I might be able to find a better deal closer to home. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Got a heck of a steel on my 01 over a year ago ($14K) it was out of North Carolina and my brother bought an 03 CTD 3500 Crew 4x4 bout 6mo ago for ($20k)

Both times we started our road trip rite after the aution ended and so didn't have any money down till we saw/drove the truck and both ended in very good deals and saved both of us big bucks!

The advantage of getting it from Texas is it won't have rust since its not from the "rust belt". Of course, make sure it was a Texas truck and not from out of state and do a title search to insure no hurricane damage or salvage title.
