the motor will be too quiet, but at least dodge is halfways towards getting a real crew cab (it's still sad). i'll keep mine for a long time.

I too, will keep my 99 until it wears out. When my truck wears out, I'll start looking for used trucks and see what kind of deals shake out of the brush.

For me, it's been the DIFFERENCE between the Cummins and what Ford and GM offer that made my choice easy - now that Cummins is becoming just another high-reving gas engine look-alike, Theres not enough difference between what Dodge offers and what I can get from Ford or GM...

In a sense, yeah, I probably WOULD switch - from DC to one of the competitors - not enough difference left to make it particularly worth sticking around - in fact, once the engine advantage disappears, some of the other features offered by the competition start looking pretty attractive... Does the expression "4 real doors" and "crew cab" mean anyhing to current DC owners?;)

BUT, all the above is exactly why I bought my new '02 - it's gotta last me a LOOooong time - it's a collector's item - the LAST of the "real" diesels from DC/Cummins!:p ;) :D

I love my undervalved truck, and wouldn't trade it for anything... At least not yet! Once the new engine has all the bugs worked out and it's got a solid track record, then we'll see :D. That's what I bought in my truck: it's track record (strong, powerful, reliable, long-lasting). And it has lived up to my expectations so far.

It still has six cylinders in a row, and makes gobs of power down low, and it's still got the name Cummins attached to it. So I think a 2006 CTD may be in my future (that should give the '97 plenty of time to develop character):D

Now, about the looks of the new truck... I'm not too sure I like it just yet, but it could grow on me when I start to see them on the streets.

Right, I want a diesel that sounds like a durapuke and is not as good looking as my current ride and would cost me more money. WRONG!!!

I will buy a new one though

I'm gonna keep my 2500 but I'm trading my wife's 96 gas Ram in for a 2003 QC 4X4 Cummins SRW 3500 w/ the 48RE. Word!

I haven’t even finished BOMBing my 2001 and I like it’s looks better too. Anyway, I liked what I bought when I bought it, I won’t need (or want) another anytime soon. Besides, my wife was just right when I married her and she is only getting better with time. Nuf said!

Not even if they traded me even-up, and threw in a new Jeep, I love my 2nd gen!!! They can keep that quiet engine, mini-van lookin' interior, 4-door wanna-be, designed around a chick thing, on the lot.

Not a chance

3 things they did wrong in my book;

1. They dropped the best looking color they ever had. (Intense Blue)

2. They made them look like the Fords from the side. :{

3. They made it quieter. :( (what's up with that)

Mine is now paid for and it's staying, until me or it falls apart. ;)

Not a chance. 'I love you just the way you are'!!

I think the 24v has all of the good stuff that the 1st gen didn't have (except the *&(^%^(*& lift pumps) and none of the bad stuff that the 3rd gens have (too quiet, for one).

Also, reading the TDR it looks like there are going to be more emissions controls on these vehicles sooner rather than later. I'll stick with what I got, thanks... .
