I've driven B/hoes more then 30 miles to save the 500 transport fee. Have a P/U follow with hazards on and drive the hoe. . It will take a hair over an hour.
Wear a hard hat to make yourself look official... .
I thought that 14,000 seamed low also but he swears that is from a dot scale. So what do you guys think, if a guy were to upgrade to a class v hitch like the putnam xdr thats rated for 15,000/16,000 wd would you tow something like this?
When I was a kid in the 50's, I towed a tractor and hay baler behind a '51 Studebaker 1/2 ton that weighed less than most compact pickups do today. We had no brakes except the pickup's and travelled most of the roads around our area. Probably all less than 30 miles, but certainly more overloaded than you'd be with the hoe and trailer. I imagine the trailer has brakes. You can get a pintle hitch that slides into the receiver.
Unlike my normal self I wimped out on towing this. I like a good chalange but I had trouble making this make sense. I bet nothing would have hapened but if it did(breaking something, ticket or accident) I would have felt very stupid knowing that I was going to be overlaoded. I talked to a hitch/welding shop in town and they thought it was just stupid to try to bumper pull that much weight even with a better hitch.
No biggie to me, I've pulled over 14K with my 24' flat deck pintel using a 2003 3500. The stock reciever has done fine so far. IF that tractor is a JD 310 sized machine, your weight will be more like 20K or more depending on the trailer weight. My 4x4 rubber tire hoe weighed around 15K. Too much for the one ton. I hope the tractor is not full size???? I haul our Kubota L4130 around with the bush hog and loader using a tag trailer and its a heavy load. It feels bigger than my tripple axle 5th wheel RV.
I'll never buy another tag trailer again, GN's rule.
