Today when I went to shut my truck down it tried to keep on runnin. I turned off the key, at first it started dying down, then lit back up again, then started shuttin down then lit back up etc etc etc. So I turned the key back on and let it keep running. A couple minutes later it shut down fine. I figure it's maybe the fuel shut off solenoid. I've shut er down without a problem about a half dozen times since and it's never happened before. Anyone had this before? I'd hate to not be able to shut er down, it's not exactly easy to stall out.

Thank You

There are a couple of things to look at. It probably is NOT your fuel solenoid. Might be, but there are some more likely candidates for the villian. Check the fuel solenoid relay first. It's cheap and can do this. Also is your starter sticking? This can happen if the contacts get burnt and stick. IF this keeps up it CAN ruin your starter or the fuel solenoid. Both are expensive.

It could also be a mechanical problem due to rusted/gunked up pivot points at the solenoid. Clean them up. The expensive solenoid rarely goes bad and is often replaced needlessly.

Sorry for the lack of info on the truck, forgot to show sig. It's my '96 with 120k miles.

I'll check out the linkage on my solenoid today.

If it is the solenoid relay maybe these are early signs of it screwin up probably hard to know for sure until it's a constant problem. Might be worth my while to get a spare relay, if not too many $$$.

I don't think my starter is sticking, I mean it cuts out after I start the truck, but I'll make sure.

Thank you for the info, it's a little difficult diagnosing a problem that's intermittent but this helps alot.

Regards

Mike
