flexplate = fusable link ?

This may be a good part not to strengthen... . as a stronger flexplate will now make another part in the drivetrain the weak link. The good part about breaking flexplates is that they are easy to change... . and relatively cheap.

Compare a CTD flexplate to a GM or F*rd flexplate and you'll see that ours is not very stout.

That's my $. 04 worth...

Very good point. You take this link out what is next? Driveshafts? Pinions? Torque convertors? It is always a good idea to have a weak link, to a certain extent. In my Jeep I have kept the Ujoints as a weak link. A $10 ujoint versus a $250 dollar axle.

The flexplates arent that hard to change, and usually do not break as severely as we broke ours.

That is a good question, what is next?

I find this is what pushing the limit is all about. Seems like there is a natural progression here. A tougher TC was make, so forward clutches slipped. So 5 clutch pack upgrades were made, then shafts broke. so cyro'd shafts were made, then hubs blew. Now we have billet hubs, so cyro'd shafts broke. Now we have billet shafts. -- This may not be entirely accurate, but you get the idea.

This is what "racing" is all about. Its an on going process that never ends. Anyways my opintion is there will always be a weak link. Intentionally having one for R&D purposes is bad. The top dogs need to fix this and keep pushing. So we can find out whats next. No excuses. Of course, intentionally having an easy to change fuse, for the rest of us consumers is good.

Is the roll cage in place yet?

Hey Andrew didn't DD's truck run an 11. 96 at MM

Congrats to any and every one involved with the runs mentioned in this post. It is absolutly amazing that a big diesel truck can go that fast that quick. .

****EDIT******

I have been set straight via email... DD's truck did not go 11. anything. . its just their banner ad says they did. By posting this I ceartianly was not taking or trying to take anyting away from Christans run, it is very impressive.

I believe so John, but most people(DD included) say it was the smoke from the exhaust playing with the lights. Remember the thread about KatDiesel going in the 10's or 11's? Smae kinda thing. This is the first "publicised" run in the 11's that the TDR has learned about.

Didnt the Autowurks 96 2wd 3500 run in the 11's last yr?I thought it ran a traction limited 11. 40 with an HX40 turbo,I may be wrong, but I remember reading it in an older TDR issue. I think Jetpilot's truck is fully capable of 11 also, there are a few bugs to work out and itll be there too.

man I leave for 11 days and she bang we got awesome #'s from Christian, Jim and Doug---way to go guys--don't forget about HVAC and his 12. 3 on diesel only either-this is so cool--so Christian when does the roll cage go in????----chris

Yeah, we did run an 11. 35 @115 out in Muncie last year in a very traction limited run, with the HX40 hitting the dust at about the 1000 foot mark. We've been trying our hardest to better that, but it seems that turbocharger technology has since slipped back into the 1950s once again. I ran consistent 12. 8s in Etown last weekend with a stock HX35, which is probably about the limit of what that charger can huff through. Our new BD trany is really making the launch much better as well. Got the 60 foot time down to a 1. 6, from the 1. 8 we ran with the tighter converter. Looks like twins are gonna be the way to go. Heck, the oil I've laid down on the several tracks we've blown turbos at is almost enough cost to justify the the twin setup (sarcastic of course). Congrats to Christian for being the first in actual daily driver form to do it.

I don't understand this statement-

but it seems that turbocharger technology has since slipped back into the 1950s once again.

Do you any do R&D on turbos?
