Hi everyone,

I pulled my back seat out last night and realized that it is bare metal from the floor up to the rear window. If you tap your fingers on that sheet metal you'll notice that it rings in the lower frequency range. So I went to the local hardware store and bought 15' of self adhesive vinyl pipe insulation wrap and stuck it to the bare metal. as soon as I started the truck I noticed it to be quiter inside the cab. The 1400 and 2200rpm drones are quieter by at least 30%. I think this is the best 10$ I've spent this year.

Give this a try, you WON"T be dissapointed!

Does styrofoam make a good sound insulator? I am goin to take rear seat out this weekend and I have alot that stuff laying around and if it works would try that first.

just make sure it is glued to every square inch of the bare metal. The weight alone of the material will stop the resonating in the sheet metal.

Styrofoam is not a good dampener for low frequencies. You need something like a clay filled vinyl for low frquencies.

I'm thinking about doing the rear doors and behind them when I get enough time to tear it all apart. I'm also thinking about lining the passanger floor by the downpipe to try to reduce the turbo whine and exhaust noise. If that works I may just do the whole dang cab!
