I did the Wix BHAF and am very happy with it since it seems the flange is a little harder than others I don't think any adapter is needed. I cranked down on the clamp real good and the filter did not even think of distorting. Pulled on it real good and no budging.

While doing that I remembered the silencer ring and had fun taking the snap ring out for that! What a PITA.

Anyway, after finishing I went for my little test drive and dayum does that thing whistle now when on the go pedal! I looked in the mirror for the semi behind me, but it was me!

I don't think I am ready to remove the muffler just yet as she is my DD, but the gauges are on their way and the EZ is probably not too far down the road. Thanks TDR for the bug. That is just what I needed... another thing to "invest" moeny in!:p

It's great isn't it?#ad
Mine is also a daily driver and work truck. Go ahead and yank the muff. off. If you have a resonator, leave it on. It'll put a nice big fat grin on your face! :D

I did the same thing the other day. Put the K&N in and it really made a nice sound. I cut both the muffler and the resonator off and I love the way it sounds. For a daily driver it might get old, but on my 300 mile trip I made today (half with the windows down and half with them up) at 70 mph the truck wasn't that much louder. I thought the turbo was louder than the exhaust tone. Just my opinion. Enjoy the truck!

Singin........

I had an AFE in mine, and not only the turbo was louder, when I towed, the exhaust brake was bellowing also!! What a tune:D Had to lose the AFE tho, the navagator was moaning too.....

I would enjoy what you got now, then when you get ready for something new I would lose the muffler. I myself like to enjoy one step at a time and savor the moment. I dropped the muffler on mine this past weekend and am very happy with it. For the cost of the eliminator from Geno's it's a cheap mod. Then listen to that turbo whistle throught. Have fun and enjoy the ride!

I installad a BHAF and removed the silencer ring. That lasted for the test drive and silencer was re-installed.

I tried a 3" straight pipe and didn't like the snarl.

I added a 4" resonator and tailpipe. Better, but still too much.

I went 4" turbo to tail with 4" allied straight through. Better.

I have another 4" Allied muffler to add in the line-up.

I've been around too much loud in my life and it just isn't fun anymore.

I added a ScottyII and pulled the silencer ring. Now my Pac break sounds great and when I pull up or pass a PSD they don't want anything to do with me. Wussys!

toss the paper element, and get the SCOTTY II!!! It sounds better with just the filter, and not the SCOTTY II cowl on there. Add a PDR HX40, and WOW!!!!

Rip Rook installed a 4 inch system from the back of the exhaust brake all the way out with a 40 inch Donaldson muffler and a polished stainless steel resinsator on the end. Oo. :D :D . Looks great, sounds deep and throaty and the throttle response is great. I just had to do this after installing the ATS manifold a week ago Friday. Inside sound is not any louder, just mellower. :D :D

zachv,

drop the muffler and leave the resonator. I have the same set up as you with the muffler gone and it sounds great. daily driving is just about the same, but going through a tunnel or with a nice wall beside me, i put the windows down and lay into it. have fun.

I hope your right, but do yourself a favor and check in often. one of mine was like that until it was exsposed to the summer heat.

My solution was a 1. 5" x 4" od X 1/16" (4 inch exhaust)

I drilled two small holes through the clamp, hose and filter neck and then screwed in two #6 sheet metal screws. This was a result of the hose slipping off the neck after being exposed to the underhood heat. I never thought it would come apart until one day...

I see what you are doing with the screws and keeping the hose from slipping off.

But the napa 2790 I had an issue with... . the hose didn't fall off, the lip buckeled under the turbo hose and had a little "V" shape depression (wide on the filter lip, narrowing tward the filter body). This depression was under the hose also under the clamped area. when I took the hose off you could see the "sealed area" from the clamp tension was very narrow and about to suck unfiltered air.

Having the support under the lip allows for a much wider sealed area under the band clamp. This seal is visable from the impression it leaves in the filter lip.

I'm running the WIX filter and had the hose slip off. The clamp was nice and tight too. I was sure it would not come off until it had. A couple of sheet metal screws provide extra insurance. Of course mine came off last winter just so I could vacuum the sand off of the roads.
