Have you done/seen this Simplysmn? It's a thought, although this is my work truck and I need this to happen as quickly as possible, I can't really take my time on this. Your sure it would fit? Beefier is always better :) Then again, I'm not even positive that any Dana80 will fit either, but i think there's a pretty good chance...

Where the heck is Rice Farmer guy from MO ? :p If there's anyone who would know about this stuff it would be good old the one and the only Daniel Puckett :) There's nuthin Daniel doesn't know, in fact I want to learn some premium foreplay strategies and that's the guy I'm gonna ask LOL

Edited to add:

I've worked that diff pretty hard in the past especially with the really hard pulls pulling that machine out of the mud, so, if I were to keep that diff I'm not sure how long before I'll be seeing downtime again, and I sure as heck dont want down time in the summer. Also when the axle came out it completely wore off the splines so for sure one new axle is needed, no idea how much that would cost. break drum and shoes also, so when taking all that into consideration when you subtract the cost to get my diff (or another D70) put in/fixed from the cost to put in an 80, which from what i read is somewhat beefier (and I'm sure isn't quite as "well used" as mine is), which I'm still trying to figgure out what the net cost to upgrade would be, is it worth it? I dunno. If it was a truck that was just used for running around with not much of a load that would be one thing, but pulling around 18-20k my personal preference is to go heavier if possible.

Thanks for the input, it's much appreciated :)

Yes I have done this it has been a few years but the corp 14 bolt I had in my crewcab held up pretty good lasted through a roll over and threw several motor's before I put the ctd in the truck I believe all we had to do was reweld the spring perches to right size now I didnt get emergancy brake cables hooked up but everything else was a bolt on and go .

ROFLMAO!!! Carl, you been drinking again? You should make it to SOP5, as you were the one who got it all started. There is a slight chance I may miss it, as I'm going to shoeing school, but it isnt near as far from the school as it is from home. I've been playing slum lord, cutting wood and trees (bad ice storm last week), working, keeping busy in extra-cirricular activites (no ring, no kids ;)). You know, basic stuff.

On to the axle. A D70 from a 2001 should be a direct bolt in fit. My 99 D80 was a near bolt in- only had to bore out the mounting plates for the u-bolts, shorten the driveshaft 1-1/2" (I actualy drove 80mi home, then took the shaft to the machine shop). E-brake cables are axle specific, but you can run the other end to your underbed splitter and they hook right in. Brake lines were a direct fit to the alxe brake hose. I had an advantage, as my axle came with the spring perches, brake lines, e-brake cables, sway bar, shocks, etc.

Yokes and u-joints are the same. Wheels may or may not fit- I've heard conflicting stories.

I thought I got a good deal on my D80 at $500. Most go for $800-1200. I got a D70 C&C for sale. Come get it :-laf :-laf

Daniel

Hey Daniel, what you mean drinking Again, it should read still :-laf Just kidding. Sounds like you got things going good for yourself, awesome, that's good to hear :) Tell ya what, if I make it to SOP5 (which I'll do everything in my power to do) I figure you should be there somehow someway, sure as heck wouldn't be the same without you. Noone knows Dodge trucks and Blazing Saddles quite like you do lmao :)

Back to the diff... ok, i need clarification here, the pads are what the springs bolt to correct? Now, if so I'm thinking I should be using the pads (also called spring perches, correct?) from the D70 because of the narrower springs? The advantage I have is my buddy that's doing this with me is a professional welder and is unbelievable at making things work, but he's not on TDR lol. He owns a Chevy 6. 5... he used to own a 92 CTD and is very sorry he got rid of it. Well I'm sure it'll make more sense when i have everything in front of me, right now I'm just trying to visualize, and with my attention span my imagination veers from the rearend of a Ram to a rearend of a cougar :-laf

Edited to add:I suppose when looking for the Ebrake cable I should make sure it's from a regular cab as well or are they all the same and just need adjusting?
