I just installed my aFe stage 2 last night and there was a huge improvement in throttle response, even without my new exhaust being installed yet.

I have the stage I AFE with the torque tube. Ive seen the difference in size between the two is atleast two inches at the filter side.

Has anyone switched from the stage I to the stage II?

what if any was the difference in egts, spool up and overall power?

I've had both the Stage I with the metal Torque Tube and now I'm running the Stage II. Even though the Stage II has a 6" filter, it is more quiet than the metal TT on the Stage I that I had.

When Brady at Industrial Injection told me I needed a Stage II for my SPS66 I thought he was full of it. I could not see how it would make much of a difference. I finally bit the bullet and bought one.

It did make a difference. Better spooling, much less turbo-bark, and indeed cooler EGT's. I can't give a number, but I can tell you that my TST defuels now later than it did before the Stage II. It's not a night and day difference, but it is noticeable.

If I had to do it again, I would purchase the Stage II right off the bat. By being "cheap" the first time, I ended up spending almost twice the money. Even with a stock turbo, I think the Stage II is the way to go.

I think the stage II flows at a higher cfm because of the 6" opening. I run a stage I and switch out from the magnum filter and the Pro 7 filter. When I'm in dirty enviroments I'll run my Pro 7 which is flows at 179 cfm. My Magnum I run in every day situations and that filter flows at 200 cfm. Stock flow is either 161 cfm or 155 cfm. I can't really verify those numbers.

I removed the silencer ring when i installed the AFE stage II on my '03 and am very pleased with the way it sounds. Its hard to beat the sweet sounds of turbo whine and silverline duals :-laf

The TAG sounds like a good product, Black Cloud Diesel has a nice write up/purchase page.

I don't remember seeing anything identified as a "silencer ring" when I installed my filter. Where is it located?

The silencer ring is a metal ring, held in by a snap ring (similar to a c-clip) that surrounds the front of the turbo. It is directly on the front of your stock turbo, right in front of the vanes. you need to drop the connector tube that goes from the filter to the front of the turbo to be able to get to it...

Pull the retainer clip out, and the silencer ring will come out.

From what I have seen, the retainer clip is a bit tricky to get a hold of, but once you get under the end of it, you can work around it with two small screwdrivers to remove it.
