I took apart an electrical switch the other day and found this label inside:

1940, and it STILL WORKS! This is mounted in an industrial bandsaw which has been in service all that time.



The on/off switch on my new (2003) Delta Shopmaster drill press crapped out in less than 2 years after probably fewer than 500 cycles.



In case you're wondering, Cutler Hammer was bought by Eaton in 1978.

Just about a month ago I pulled a flourescent ballast off an aircraft that was manufactured in the early 70's
 
Ahh. . The good old days when companies were more concerned with building quality products and keeping customers then making as much money as possible...



They dont build them like they used to



We have a drill press at work that is 1970 vintage and still going strong... lil too strong some times... lol

I found it interesting that they still printed "Made in USA" on things in 1940. I would've thought that was implied, and not necessary to explicitly state back then.
