Holy crap! The more I read the more I don't feel sorry for the Ford Owners at all. I mean anyone that dumps 40K+ blindly on something without doing any research as to the reliability is pretty dumb. Some are on their 2nd and 3rd trucks... And this is after being left to pasture with a cackle/knocking 7. 3L from Ford. Brand loyalty can cost you some serious money. If anyone spent less than 5 minutes searching the internet they could fine out a few things easy. 1) However much HP and however fast the 6. 0L Powerstroke is, it can not be trusted for nothing more than a grocery getter, as long as the store is close. 2) NO ONE can talk bad with a straight face about the Cummins and bad reliability. Pretty easy choice for me.

They will get her dialed in. They just got a little overzealous when trying to keep a grasp on market domination. Even with the problems it didnt dissuade too many of the buyers.



With the press releases it was obvious it was a flawed engine and not diesel engines as a whole that was the problem. Even if it smudges the reputation the 5. 9 should be able to hold it up with this new 325hp engine. There isnt a reason to buy gas anymore when a diesel makes that many ponies. A lot of the big block heads are gonna switch allegiance. Especially with all the recognition the high hp rigs are getting in the 4x rags. Cheap power and driveability of a 500 hp diesel will attract quite a few folks.



I was talking to this guy last summer. He had a nice car. 500hp big block. Lopey as a mofo, stalled more than once. He asked what I had. I said a 500hp daily driver diesel. He looked dismayed. His buddy a PSD owner and good friend of mine looked at him and said I told you so.

I am always amazed of the threads on irv2.com that start out with "Looking for a new tow vehicle, Ford or Chevy?" When an enlightened Dodge owner suggests at Dodge/CTD, the response is "I'm not interested in a Dodge", or "I always buy ... . ", or "I want a Powerstroke 6. 0", ... or "I want a 5 speed auto", or "Dodge can't make a reliable auto", ...

I love Fords... granted, most of the ones I mess with are based on a late 70's design, but when I originally started looking at diesels, I was looking at Fords... I quickly started looking at the Cummins after doing some research!



nothing wrong with loyalty, but if it's BLIND loyalty, it's just plain foolishness!!



I have been very satisfied with my two CTD's, but as I tell my ford buddies: engine by Cummins, transmission by New Venture, differential by Dana. about the only thing "Dodge" about 'em are the electronics and the doors... I have no complaints, I just feel more at home in a Ford... I can look at a Ford wiring harness and tell you which color wire does what, etc. after owning 25+ Fords, they became 2nd nature...



with that said, untill I find a suitable (CHEAP!) late 80's F350 crew cab 4x4 with a whooped 6. 9 to swap a 5. 9B/NV4500 into (and the time/money to do the swap), I'll keep driving Dodges in order to sit behind the Cummins!!

Oh I hear ya there. I worked for Ford for 5 years in the early 90's and I will say that in some if not most cases things like wiring , and systems were laid out very well pretty much across the product line (Except the SHO taurus).

Keep a sharp eye out - You will find one but they seem to hold there price even with a blown engine.

I've found a number of 2wd crew cab duallys in the $1-2k range in various running conditions. the SRW 4x4's have been fewer/later/pricier, but I'll find the right one!
