Just installed a #10 fuel plate in my truck and ... ... ... WOW:)... ..... what a difference it makes. I couldn't wait to hop into it this morning and drive to work. I can see that my fuel bill will be increasing in the future:confused:. Now I'm worried about the stock transmission. It's strong, but the engine has so much more pull now I know it's gotta be working on the trans. Is there anything I can do for the stock transmission to make it stronger? Yeah I know about changing the TC and adding a beefier valve body but does this really make the trans bullet proof or does it just buy me time. I guess if I was to invest money it might just as well be in a new transmission that will handle the power?

Three Letters, DTT! It's only money... You'll make more tomorrow. I had my trans done 100k miles ago & know I'll be doing it again too soon but it's been one helluva ride!

I did the same to my truck, upgraded the fuel plate... two years later I had to replace the stock transmission. I went with a basic Goerend trans. They state that the basic rebuild is good up to ~400hp/ Warranted for 3yr/100k. I get 2nd gear chirps from the wheels. :-laf

Just be careful with the EGT's. I put my plate in a few months ago and the temps were ok unless i really held the pedal down. pulled a 5,000 trailer the other day had the cruise set for 70 and hit 1550 degrees when i started to climb a hill. Boy I almost ***** myself. I think a feel a bigger turbo coming on in the next few months.....

EGTs won't be an issue with the 180hp engine he has. Never saw over 1000* pre-turbo with mine after I installed it.

Save for a built trans. Will be sooner than later.

Actually under hard throttle, no towing, I can get to 1250. I obviously don't hold that long but I do see it.

transmission is strong (for now) but I definately know I'm on borrowed time. Just wanna get the best bang for the buck when it comes to a new transmission. I don't see myself adding too much more power as the cost will be significant from here on in, maybe a methanol injection system. That'll lower EGT's during wide open and towing and it's something that doesn't need to be activated everytime I crunch the loud pedal.

Speaking of loud, I was confronted by my neighbor a while back. Seems he isn't a fan of my diesel at 6:00 am. Oh well, he'll get used to it I'm sure.

I've been told if you don't go above the low 300s HP range and drive reasonably you can get by with a shift kit and good aftermarket TC. That's assuming the transmission is healthy and well maintained to begin with. At minimum I'd get a stock pan from a '98 or newer transmission (which is larger & holds more fluid) and put a gauge on it to monitor temps. Keep the fluid changed and bands adjusted and you may get by for a lot of miles.

One thing that helps is to manually shift down when you're accelerating harder, I believe that helps save the trans.
