Wrangler CRD next year?

I heard through the grapevine that they will be offering the 2. 8L CRD in the Wranglers next year. Man that would be sweet...



I wish I had more substantiating evidence to support my claim, but I don't.

(My future in-laws are related to someone who works at DC. When he heard about my diesel Jeep project - he replied with Jeep's plans to have more diesels in their product line. )

I've been reading Wrangler diesel rumors for a couple of years now, but heard nothing with the new launch of the '07 Wrangler. That disappointed me. Normally you would get a faint whiff with a sentence like, "additional engines may be added later" or "a diesel engine is probable".



I've said it before and I'll say it again: Make mine a diesel Wrangler Unlimited with a 6-speed manual and a hardtop.

i'd like a crd rubicon 6 speed manual hardtop too... and some 255/85/16 on the stock wheels 16x8 wheels... [hmm, straight pipe and egr delete would need to be figured out ]

CRD Rubicon Unlimited

I have driven the 05 Rubicon Unlimited with a 6 speed, a very nice vehicle. If the factory offers a Rubicon Unlimited CRD with a 6 speed, I will strongly consider purchasing one. I have already looked into converting one, way too expensive to do. :--) I am looking for the fuel mileage improvements and the overall longevity of the entire vehicle, plus the fun factor!

No automaker in its right mind would offer a 4BT in a passenger vehicle. Sure, a small number of people will LOVE the vibration, smoke and noise, but 99. 99% of the population would never buy one. A more civilised diesel engine would sell very well

No automaker in their right mind would offer something like the Pontiac Aztec... wait, that really did happen.



I'm not using a 4BT for my project, I'm using a common-rail injection 3. 9L ISBe - which is 10x less noisy than traditional pump-nozzle injected diesels. I can't vouch for the vibration that the 4BT's or the 3. 9L ISBe's might have. Time will tell.

Adding fuel to the fire...

From the 4/3/06 Biodiesel Bulletin put out by the National Biodiesel Board:



"Sales of the Jeep® Liberty CRD diesel, which comes pre-filled with 5 percent biodiesel (B5), are about to surpass the 10,000 mark. That’s double the number expected when Chrysler Group first launched the diesel model in early 2005.



The company made the announcement in March at the Peter Cremer North America biodiesel refinery in Cincinnati, Ohio. The refinery supplies biodiesel for a factory fill of the Liberty. Every diesel Jeep Liberty that leaves the Toledo, Ohio factory is fueled with B5.



“At DaimlerChrysler, biodiesel is part of our vision for an America that is less dependent on petroleum, that protects and preserves the environment, and that values a strong and sustainable economy,” said Deb Morrissett, Vice President-Regulatory Affairs for the Chrysler Group. “We are excited to be in this partnership with Peter Cremer, and with the biodiesel industry as a whole, to use clean, renewable, homegrown sources of energy to power our vehicles. ”



Ohio Governor Bob Taft, Ohio Department of Agriculture Director Fred L. Dailey, DaimlerChrysler and local farmers from the Ohio Soybean Council gathered at the biodiesel plant to celebrate. "

It wouldn't be a 4bt! If there is going to be a diesel in the Wrangler it will be the same VM diesel that is in the Liberty.

AMEN! Offer the 2. 8 CRD and a 6-speed in the Wrangler and I will be one of the first in line to order it!

The spec sheet was on Jeep.com for the 2007's, but its been revised now. Yes, the diesel is available in 2007, but not in the North American markets.



I can't think of a vehicle any more American then a Jeep. Something just seems wrong that the rest of the world gets a model we can't.

That sucks if it is going to be available, but not for here!! What is the deal with that?? The engine is obviously epa compliant becuase it is used in the Liberty! They obviously sell PLENTY of them because they way overshot their goal on Liberty diesel sales and they sell all they can produce of the Liberty CRD.

To make matters WAY worse, the 4. 0L inline 6 is getting replaced by the 3. 7L v-6!!! The 4. 0L is an excellent engine (for a gasser) with low-end torque and typical inline durability. If they want to retain the low-end torque like is expected and needed in a Jeep Wrangler, they HAD BETTER OFFER THE DIESEL!!!!!

Actually they are going to build the diesel for north american markets but it might be behind one year or so. There will also be a 4 door JK available also, which I might add looks real cool. The gas motor will be a 3. 8L with a 6 speed manual or 4 speed auto. After the first year it is supposed to get a new 5 speed auto however. Hope this info helps.
