My truck was a 2x4 and was hit in the rear from a dead stop. mini van that hit me must of been going at least 60 according to the sheriff. My question is that the insurance company said I could buy it back for $1,700. Truck had 190K on it. Is it worth it to part out? or let them have it. frame is bent and knocked out the driveline. she hit me on the driver side rear and turned on her side and crossed two lanes of traffic on I35 here in Texas. WOW!

The engine is worth about $12-1500. If it was hit hard enough to knock the driveline out I doubt the rear end will be a runner so in my opinion, let them have it.

I would think you could get your money back easily if you bought it back. If you had power seats I need the motors, if the seats are in good condition I might be willing to buy them if they fit. One little piece of door trim cost me $100 the other day. THey have a lot of parts people are looking for. If you have the room to let it sit I would keep it and part it out piece by piece. YOU will make money. The 95 is the first gen if I am thinking right and everyone wants those engines. You are sitting on a gold mine, IMHO>>>>>

Sell me the PCM before you let it go!!!

its a mechanical engine, i dont think any computer on that truck would be worth a whole lot. the only computers on there will be for the air bags and maybe the brakes and locks if it had a factory security system. i might be wrong but pretty sure there is not one for the engine.

Buy it back. You can definitely part it out and sell it for more than that. There are always people looking for used parts on the cheap.

Plus, then you have a 12 valve waiting for a good home... a good excuse for a fun project.

Having just went through this with my insurance on a car, I assume they are paying you out a certain amount over and above that number? For instance, my car was totaled and State Farm gave me $5000 for the car. Should I had wished to purchase it back, I would have received the car, (with a branded title) and a check for $3300. For me it was not worth it. I took the check.

Were it my truck on the other hand it would have been a no-brainer. I have let too many vehicles go that I should not have. In your case though, it sounds as though any settlement would not cover the cost of repairing your truck. Yet in your shoes I would still take the truck and cash and part out as I could. Keep in mind, I have a TON of storage and the vehicle would not be an eyesore to anyone.

Also make sure that you are getting a fair settlement... I lost an antique motorcycle to a fire where they offered me literally nothing for it when it was worth $6000. If you find yourself in this place, don't settle... If you want p. m. me and I can give you some hard won advice.

Smitty, an aquaintenance of mine who owns a wrecking yard told me that according to his crossover book the auto PCMs and the manual trans PCMs are different.

Check your PMs please.

I'd guess you could make some $$$ if you have no/ very good neighbors and some spare time to sell off the parts.
I'm sure could recover your $1700 and have the engine for free so to speak. Maybe some extra cash in pocket if it's rust free.

True Gary, but I have a customer in dire need of one for his auto. Wait, dire is not the correct wording. He wants one to cure a cruise issue. That is his only issue. Stubborn old fella for sure.

Thanks

My understanding is that the PCM on the Manual only controls charging, Air Conditioning and Cruise Control, on the Auto, same but add the trans. Since mine's a manual, I could be misinformed about the auto.

As to keep or let it go, you have to decide how much your time is worth and if you wish to spend it running ads and pulling parts or letting strangers come in and hack around so they can get what they want. Yes the car is worth more in pieces than as a whole. The difference in value there is going to have equate to more than what your time is worth to have to deal with it.

2nd gen

The 95 is a 2nd gen truck but still has a mostly mechanical engine it dose have a different IP than the 1st gens. But you are correct the engine is becoming more and more desirable.

well they settled with me for 6,150. it would be a seperate deal for me to purchase it back. I did not purchase the other truck due to the fact that the owner that did the rebuild forgot to install the piston skirt coolers after he had machine work done to the block. that means that the whole engine would of had to be removed from the truck and the crank removed to install them. I ended up purchasing a 1994 12V 2500 4x4 but it has 270K on it so at some point at the least I will have to rebuild or replace the transmission. I got the truck (jet black) no fadeing for 6K he was asking 8500K I kinda feel bad he needed the money to fix his moms home. Oh well I love the truck. Anyways I am getting off track... I just don't have the place to store all the parts and I do not have gracious neighbors.

dont give it up. guys out here can really use some of those parts. sorry about your truck though ..... that really stinks.
