Here is the story. I own a 2001. 5 24 v H/O. I went to Cummins Intermountain to get a fleetguard filter. They gave me an LF 3552. They said it was the right one. Come to find out that is a 12v Filter:eek:  . Anyway I ran this filter for 5000 mi. before I found this out. How much damage did I do??

None. Just change it to a Fleetguard LF3984 and don't worry.

No Problem

The LF3894 replaced the LF3552 in 24-valve applications because in extreme weather conditions, there were incidents of oil seeping from the cans. The new filter, LF3894, has a beefier can and nut assembly. Since you didn't experience any leakage from the can, you have absolutely no problem. If we're in a bind, we have been known to run the "dented" LF3552s (returned to Geno's Garage) in our 24-valve trucks from time to time.

I have a friend who used them for three oil changes when he upgraded his Ram to a 24V he used his 12V filters to save a few bucks. No harm done.
