can someone tell me about mixing a small amount of gas with the diesel in the fuel tank. I accidentally put a few gallons of gasoline in my fuel tank at the gas station. I immediatly added the remainder of the tank with diesel. Probably about 5 gallons of gasoline and put in 20+ gallons of diesel with the 4or 5 gallons of diesel already in the tank. It is a brand new cummins, and at this point it is not making any noises or anything. Can someone tell me if I have a serious problem or can I drive it a short distance and fill it up again a couple of times until I can run the gas out of the tank? Please help if you can, Thanks Rico

I personally wouldn't run it with more than 1/2 gal of gasoline in 30 gals of diesel. .

I'm sure there is a ratio that might be safe but I don't know what that is... ...

The diesel fuel lubes the tight tolerances of the injection system... . gasoline will wash away that lube and cause galling of the surfaces... . pump... . injectors ..... etc... .

Might be slight now... but can get worse... If you haven't gone far... . do the right thing and drain it out..... and remember to drain the fuel from the filter... .

Not sur on how to answer. Seems like you should drain it. . If you do drain it , do the right thing and catch it and call someone who knows what to do with it. Remember, 1 gallon of diesel can pollute 1 million gallons of clean water. Not tryin to preach but this earth needs all the help it can get.

just my .02

In an older 12 valve truck (like I have) I'd just ad a quart of good 2 stroke oil and run it.

In the newer 24 valve and up engines, I'd drain it.

I posted on the engine and transmission forum, but I'd like to say thank you to all who answered the post for information. It was all helpfull. The tank was drained as well as the fuel line and replaced the fuel filter. Lift pump was checked and pressure is ok, added a full tank of diesel and some diesel additive and she is running strong again. Like I said, Thanks for all the information, it was much appreciated.
