Sceids website calls for an LF3959 on my '93 engine(Which I just got running! but that's another story. See my post in the Conversions forum). I have an LF3349 on it now. Is this going to hurt anything?

Don, you can use any B series Cummins oil filter on your 93 engine as long as its not made before 93, an 'old' part number. We can use any oil filter all the way up to 02 CTD oil filters 93-02. Might even be able to use the OF's for 03+. Check out a thread in the 2nd gen 12V forum this was just covered. Plus don't read to much into what Scheids says. If it was made before 94 and you want to do it preturbo, thats another story, they won't talk to ya ... .

Thanks bgilbert! My concern stems from the fact that I have an Autometer Z-series oil pressure guage in the cab of this thing (built a custom dashboard for it), and after startup the guage goes all the way across to 100 PSI+ and is pegged there. No I have not had it running long enough to see if it drops after it warms up a bit. Just wondering this is normal or if I need a different filter or perhaps a different guage?

The LF3394 is the "standard" filter for the B series... . it has a cellolous element.

The LF3552 is an upgrade with a microglass element.

The stratopore (don't have the number) is an upgrade to the 3552.

You won't have a problem with what you have on your engine now.

100+ psi is a little high (but won't hurt anything) , I would get a mechanical gage and check it.

My marine engine ran 100+ psi cold when it was new..... After about 100 hours it settled to about 80 when cold...

Hope this helps.

I think the 3959 is a supercession for the 3349? Maybe not. I say as long as the threads fit, and the rubber gaskets line up where they are supposed to, run it. I try to run the LF3894. Guy at Cummins told me it wouldnt work- it's for the 24V, and I took him out an popped the hood and showed him I what I was running. Stratopore has the same efficiency rating as the Microglass, but is a more even medium than the MG.

I hooked my engine up to a cheapo mechanical oil pressure gauge one time- 75psi cold idle; 95psi cold at above idle; 35 or so warm idle. this is with 280K. I thought there was a blow off valve somewhere set to 65 or so. The CaseIH MX270 (C series) at work runs 105psi at cold start up.
