Did Bush Lie?

I am looking to purchase a snowmobile but i have been out of them since the 80's and really dont know where to start.

i dont need 2up, i want something that is pretty fast (box stock) or cheap to hop up. i am buyin used and want to spend around 4K

Yamaha

SRX 700

SX-R or Vmax

Polaris

XC600 or 700

what is a storm 800 like

what i cant figure out is I want something that is trail/farm field fast. something that will come on fast and not need 2 milles to wind out. however i dont want to be the snow eater when we go out on the lakes either.

what is better to have a twin or triple. i've heard the triple's can run hot in the center cyl's. any truth to that?

talking about triples though i would think a triple would have more torque than a twin. however i here the twins can run higher RPM's.

what about the ski doo and artic cats?

are they any good, do they have any box stock fast sleds?

can you guys list me a few good sleds that i can look for in the 4K price range and not real old. 97 and up maybe.

Lot's of choices

Todd,

For Approximately 4K you should be able to get a sled that is about 2 years old. I personally ride a 2000 800 rmk and have always been real happy with Polaris. That being said I would stay away from the Storm as they are known to be really finicky. When they are running good they are fast and fun but getting them to that state is tough at times.

As far as what manufacture to get It all boils down to the color of the sled and which decal looks better in your back window. :D

There use to be a ton of manufactures now there are four major manufactures and they all make a good sled.

I cannot tell you who makes the better short track machine, as I have no experience with them. But I do know that Arctic Cat sure win's a lot of races in the snow cross series, but Ski-doos new rev line is awesome and the Yamaha viper is scary fast but then again so is the polaris 800XC with it's edge chassis.

Die hard’s will :-{} over which machine is better but for me they all have their good and bad points but mainly they are just a tool that I use to get out and enjoy Gods creation.

Good luck on your hunt for the perfect ride. :D
