WTF? My phantom chime has gone bezerk!!!

I get to bumpy roads and this thing will chime for 30 seconds at a time. I am getting the lamp out on occasion, but everything works.

If lamp out light is on and I do anything (turn on/off lights it goes out. Step on brake it goes out. Put on e brake so I can jump out and check lights it goes out.)

Just read a post about the tail lights making this go crazy. Is that where I should start?

Taillights yes, and on mine the front turn signal lamps also have contact problems (triggering the phantom chime or lamp out and chime at random) so you could replace those sockets as well.

Mine has been doing it for years & finally fixed it by cleaning all bulb sockets with wire brush & using electrical grease. Haven't had a chime in 2 months which is a record for my truck.

Mine were too far gone for cleaning even with new bulbs. I could see on a new bulb where the contact was arcing in the socket on the bulb connector wire. It's like the 'spring' is worn out in the socket contact.

Well, got into it last night. The sockets on this 03 are different than my Dodge minivan. I saw not evidence of socket failure at all. Lubed everything up with some electric grease and threw it back together. When I did I had a right blinker not work? hmmmmm Took all back apart again on right side inspected again, looked good, threw it back together and everything worked.

Will be able to tell soon if the crazy chiming is gone.

This only buys you time as I did the same on mine with the front socket that went bad. It only lasted a month or two. You had your hands on the failing part and only new sockets will fix this for a longer time.

I have had to replace the right rear board on my truck twice, once under warranty a few years after I bought the truck and then again last year. As parts go the price isn't too bad, considering the aggravation the chime causes. I think I paid right at $30 at Roberts Dodge in Pryor, Oklahoma for the board this last time. For what it's worth, the dealers will usually give you the "wholesale price" if your truck is for a business.
