So, replaced the fluid in my axles last fall, front and rear. Replaced the front with One quart of Lucas oil stabilizer, and topped it off with 75W-90 that I normally use. Read good stuff about it and figured I would give it a shot. Well 6 months later, I walked past my truck today and saw a foamy white puddle in the end of the axle tube and on the inner C of the axle. A little ****** off, I checked my diff only to find it full of a tan thick liquid. I havent driven in any water puddles near deap enough to get water in there, so what the hell gives? These hasnt been a puddle even close to that deep around here since last spring, so I am really confused, is this caused by the water or is it caused by the Lucas stuff? I didnt put lucas stuff in the rear, just Amsoil like I always do. Axle breather tube is still attached and up on the frame rail like its suppose to be, so its not from there. I am just confused, and ******! If this Lucas crap is the cause, and it damaged my diff, is there anything I can do? The stuff in the diff doesnt look foamy, its just tan, and it doesnt have bubbles suspended in it by the looks of it.
 
If it were me I would get rid of the Lucas. It's not needed with a good oil in there. I have had the Amsoil 75w90 in my front for about 172k and it's doing great. The only problem I had was when I tried to run it filled clear to the bottom of the fill hole. On longer drives it would burp oil out the vent hose and run down the fender a little. Once I lowered the level a little like it supposed to be the problem went away.
 
oh, all that crap is coming out tomorrow for damn sure. I would totally admit it was my fault if I remember driving through over 1' of water, but the the fact of the matter is, I havent, thats what pisses me off. If its the lucas stuff, their crap will never see my dollar again! :-{}
 
well, drained it out today, what a freakin mess! Turns out it was water alright, the inside of my diff cover and bearing caps have surface rust on them! :{ Totally sucks, and I really dont know how it got in there. Again, I havent driven through any water more than maybe 6-8" deep and with 35" tires, its gotta be way deeper than that to even come close to the axle tubes.



I drained out as much of the white nasty stuff, even pulled the cad and that too obviously was filled with this wonderful white ooze. I cleaned it up, and put in new gear oil.



For how full the diff was, there had to more than a quart of WATER in there! :--) It was damn near full over the fill hole! I am guessing that is why it started oozing out the axle seals as it was way over full and on top of that it was really "thined out" by the water.



I sure hope there wasnt any damage done to the axle, as the gear teath all looked perfect and there was no etching on the gear faces.



The only way I could imagine water getting in there was either driving through deep water, which I know I didnt do. Another way would be from the vent tube, which might be where it got in, why, because the vent tube was not attached to the fender anymore (bracket popped loose) and was laying against the firewall. Well, when I first put my lift on the tube came loose like this and melted part of the cap on the vent because it touched the down pipe of the turbo. So, maybe water running down the firewall some how got in the tube, but that much, I highly doubt it. Lastly, could driving in deep snow do it? I have had to drive through some deep snow, but dont know how that could get in that easy.



Oh well.
