Snake Oil or What?

Any Bay Area Bio Diesel Experts?

I have a 2006 quad cab. I am very interested in starting to use wvo as an alternative fuel... where and how do i begin ..... I live in Miami,FL. any help would be greatly appreciated

Youre going to get a lot of opinions on this question, including mine. . I recommend only using "processed" veg oil that has been refined into cleanly washed, dried & filtered biodiesel. Too many variables in wvo to run in the expensive engines that we have.

fuel

I on the other hand will tell you to burn Waste Veg Oil but I would start out by running New Veg Oil and only try it in small amounts say one gallon to start and working up to 50/50 mix then if the truck likes it start running filtered WVO the only thing is use the right oil. nonhydrogenated oil only. this will be far cheaper using WVO and not New VO. This is called blending fuel.

By filtered oil I mean dewatered/filtered to 5 micron or better for over 12 hrs. this way the filters will filter out all the stuff. running the oil thru once is like doing no filtering at all.

the biodiesel way only helps out the middle men the farmer gets little or nothing for his crop:confused: the middle men (aka the refinery owners:-laf! make all the money and you pay the same if not more for fuel. does this sound right to you ??????

just my . 05 cents worth

good luck and have fun, its only a engine

oil

just remember clear oil not the creamy stuff canola/soy/sunflower/it up to you sams club/ costco the big box stores should be your best price.

@ $3. 00 a gallon vers free and @15 miles per gallon. You save $2000 every 10,000 miles. So for a 12v I figure if I only got 20,000 miles out of a engine I break even. And 20k is nothing even with bad wvo.

Should not be a problem they just give you extra timing and a little more fuel. you will need something to boost the power you will lose when running high amounts of vo this amount should not be a problem.

Give it a try just like it is.

If you are like me its hard to put this in your truck at first. Do this take an Engine Oil Sample before you start using VO then use some VO and take another oil sample this will show you what is getting in to your engine oil if anything is. I have been doing this for 2 years and the oil tests always comes back good. Cat or Cummins and a few others offer this service the cost is about 18. 00 dollars each time you test.

well the gallon is in and doing well... . so far so good.

how much less compresion is the engine going to run when i get to 50/50 and when i make the complete switch to 100 wvo.

It won't affect the compression at all. The compression is static and the only variable is the turbo charge into the cylinder. The fuel won't affect that either. You may be thinking of the pressure in the fuel lines which is impacted by the thicker fuel especially at cooler temps. That's why filtering and heating are important. It's all worth the few little glitches to have fuel at 50 cents a gallon instead of paying $3 and up. It will really be great when fuel hits $5 a gallon!

I've been away from this subject for a long time....

how do you get the 50 cents/gallon?????

day two on vo and still running good. I did notice that the engine has quieted down a little bit... But still running strong, and the exhaust fumes does smell a little different than the norm.

cost of fuel

Hello Hammersley

Heres a breakdown for the fuel. Sorry its a little higher than 50 cents

40 Gallons of WVO = free

4 Gallons of Kero/D#1/JetA = $16. 00 . (based on last years price )

2 gallons of Reg gas = $6. 00 (based on $3. 00 per gallon) my price today is 2. 85

30 oz of Powerservice = $3. 156 based on 96 oz at 10. 10 per bottle my cost this week.

6 oz of DSE (mock) = $. 29

46. 25 gallons at $25. 44 . 5501837 per gallon.

I have been lucky in getting my kero JET A for no money so my cost is less than this.

picking up the oil takes about 2 hrs a week and making the fuel takes about 1 hr a week the power to make this is not included in the price i not sure what the cost is but my power bill before i started making my own fuel and now is not that much higher.

hope this is the info you need.

the truck is running strong and good cj hall..... I am going to add 6 gallons this week... . I bought a 5 micron sock filter... . so i am going to get some wvo..... I am loving this alternative fuel... I heard of someone in my area (Miami, FL) that has a new dodge on 100 % wvo... . so im trying to get in contact with him... This is all new to me,but I cant wait for my fuel cost to start dropping.

CArtola,

Yes, soy bean oil is fine for the blend. In fact, one of the great things about this blend is that the the cheapest and most widely used vegetable oils found in restaurants is non hydrogenated soybean oil and thats what works best for this type of fuel.

Hydrogenated oils are more expensive for the food service operator to buy, though they get longer life out of their oil. As stated above, make sure you have a non hydrogenated oil. Clear Fry is a popular name for it. Then make sure you filter the oil. You can't filter it enough in my opinion.

Hope this helps,

Dale

oil

sorry yes the soy oil is fine.

you will get petter performance from canola but it is harder to find

as said above get the right oil and your problems will be less.
