I have questions about an old safe.

Any one watching the Ken Burns' Doc on WW II? I find it captivating to say the least. I never realized the gravity of the situation and how much there was to lose. It is easy to be lulled by the highschool history books giving an overview of the situation and not fully understand how many mistakes were made at the cost of many men.

My families didn't suffer any loss of life on either side. My grandfather and his sister were born in Germany, stayed until they were 10 and 12, then came to NY to be with there parents, who had gone ahead and started a business. Before he died I asked him about what it was like durning WW II in America. Needless to say he didn't get into much detail. I can't imagine.

My Grandfather and Grandma, before they were married, went to Germany to spend family money that couldn't be taken out of the country. I think it was about '34-'35. I never heard any stories about this trip, only my mother saying that they had to cut the trip short.

I've watched every episode. Very Captivating.

My Grandfather served in the Navy on a PT Boat in the Phillipines.

I find Ken Burns does a fine job on his documentaries. His civil war documentary was fantastic but this is one that needed to be done!

Cant wait till the next installment on Sunday.

Kara and I have watched every episode so far. We like it so much that the daily chores have been rescheduled around the show - can't say that about many other things on TV. :)

Dad was in Austrailia and loaded bombers. 384th Bomb Group. I have his letters to his brother, and the one that stands out is about the A-bomb. When we dropped the first one. the artillery gunners pointed the cannons straight up in celebration. Twelve soldiers died when the shrapnel from the flak came down. We buried him last year on 9/11. There was a field of flags in Mercer county OH to honor any soldier, living or dead,as well as cops and fire fighters. It was a fitting trip to walk through the field of over four thousand flags.

I have been watching them too. My DAD was in the Air Force in the Alutetian Islands with NO HEAT in their barracks. He flew fighters.
