Got my Xenon flares painted and ready to install. I read a while back someone had talked to a 3M rep. and he said to get a better adhesive tape like the VHB (very high bond) brand from 3M for the flare install. I wrote them (3M) and asked what to use. They said Scotchmount TM Double-coated Acrylic foam tape #6397. Is this the two-sided, gray foam tape included with the kit already?
The gray 3M tape included with my Warn 4x4 flares (on my 96') is cracking, gapping, and completely coming unstuck to my pickup. So, I want the HD stuff for sure, and not worried about it ruining the paint underneath.
Also, the Xenon instructions go into a lot of detail about prep. for the install. But, then they leave out the part about installing the screws. Just says "... . blah blah blah, then install screws", which seems it would be pretty important to me. My Warn flares had little indentations where the screws go, and lined up with the fender lip. The Xenon's don't have any, and it will be a guess as to where to drill. I wanted to drill the holes in the flares first, then align them and mark through the holes to make sure the screws will be centered in the lip. But, what's the best way to do this now?
Anyone having experience with the Xenon install would be a big help. I want this to be a "one time" install, and to last a while.
