XM is lousy in my 03; what to do?

Only the RB1 will do that. The next best thing is to use a PnP (plug - n - play)

like one of these besides being able to see all that info you can pop it out and pop it into the boat, TT, Home, work etc. . and use just one subscription.

Yes, as far as I know the RAZ will only show the station name and number.

As good and as the cheap aftermarket head units are these days, I would save the 85 bucks and buy a new head unit with a line-in option, before I'd buy that adapter. I have my SkyFi2 going into the AUX input of my AVIC-N1, but even the $150 on ebay decks aren't bad and would sound a lot better than OEM with FM modulator or even direct line in. In fact, sometimes I wished my stereo didn't sound so good, as I can hear the compression in the satellite signal. After a while I get used to it, though, and it's still WAY better than FM when I don't feel like being my own DJ. The same line-in I use with my iPOD when I feel like being in control of the tunes. The iPOD sounds at least as good as the CD's I burn from MP3's... better than the XM, but there are so many good stations on XM for any kind of mood... but I digress...

It would be interesting to hear that same system with an Eclipse 8000 series instead of the OEM head unit, then decide if the OEM unit is really any good. :-laf Yes, that system will sound a lot better than stock with good speakers and amps, but the head unit is still not on par with the components they installed in that truck.

I still submit that the miniscule difference in sound quality between those methods is beyond perception to 99. 5% of the population in the environment of a vehicle being driven down the road.

Maybe your hearing isn't great, or you simply haven't heard the difference back to back. Mine is and I have, and I respectfully hold that I don't care what fm modulator you have, it doesn't sound nearly as good as a proper digital connection. Diesel truck or not, I can clearly hear the difference, it's bigger than you think.

Agreed. "Beyond perception" I don't think could be said about "99. 5% of the people", however I would agree that the vast majority of people just "don't care". Some people would be just as happy listening to a monaural broadcast over AM. You can't try to cram high-tech down everyone's throat, since not everyone cares for the taste. I, on the other hand, have grown to appreciate the clarity that comes from quality, and there's no one on the planet that could convince me to go back to a stock head unit, with or without amp and speaker upgrades. It's all subjective, and some people don't care. For those people, I wholeheartedly recommend the FM modulator for it's ease of use. Heck, I use one in my boat because all I care about is background tunes there, and it's convenient and sounds decent. However, my truck is my concert hall, and I love to feel it, hear it, and enjoy it at high volumes with no distortion. Even the people that insist stock is great would be surprised at all the subtle details that weren't even noticed until the music was played on a quality system... no matter what genre you prefer... but that's OK, don't do it! Your wallet will thank you.

Thejeepdude , that was very well said. The subtle nuances that you will hear in a high tech stereo will blow you away. You'll be listening to a song you've heard a hundred times, and all of a sudden catch a few more notes that you never heard before. It's amazing what high end audio equipment will do. I also agree most people either don't know any better or don't care to have anything better than stock... and agree that fm modulation is great for those with lower standards than audiophiles. Then again, one would figure that same person with average standards might buy a powerstroke, which leaves me confused

Installed mine yerterday, XM sounds better than the CD Oo.

RAZ will show station name and number or artist and song title. But not both at the same time. Just push button to switch back and forth.

I wonder if that has something to do with your using the XM Direct product. Others on this board have the OEM Sirius tuner and can't get that information to show. If you push "Tune" doesn't it change the channel?

Negative. With XM direct, (the large picture you showed in the other thread) which is what I have and RAZ.



In XM mode,Tune button for selecting artist,or song title, or channel.



Scan button tunes channels, up or down. Also buttons for preset 10 stations or channel.



Also station up and down, and volume, and mode (am,fm,tape,cd) on steering wheel controls.



Also PURE DIGITAL SOUND, no fm modulation.



I've been following both threads. Others responding that are not able to do this, appear to have the SIRIS RADIO.

There is a 3 digit code on the face. . RBK, RBQ, RAZ are some of the models.
