just got my xm radio (skyfi 2) and am looking for a good place to mount it. I don't like the idea of putting it on top of the dash, nor do I like it on the air vents. I thought about using that little cubby hole below the airbag on/off switch, and cutting an "L" shape piece of plastic to slide in there. Can't seem to find any suitable plastic. Any ideas? Anyone else mounted theirs in a better spot? Thanks

Mount it under the rear tire, then get SIRIUS :-laf :-laf

just kidding

I wasn't too fond of the portable so I purchased a new stereo. Sorry I can't help.

Used to XM mount and installed it to the left of the ashtray. Easy to reach and can see it thru the steering wheel.

cul,

Casey

i used the cubby hole and made a bracket to mount my roady2. i will try to post a pic soon. it has worked out well.

I made a metal bracket out of some heavy gauge tin straping material,

bent it to fit inside the ashtry drilled the tin and ashtry for self tapping screws

then attached the adesive barcket of XM to the lip of metal sticking out of the ashtry which I don't use anyway. . Chris

Chris... I was looking around and found the ashtray to be a great spot. Any chance you could post a pic on here of your set up. The ashtray opens just wide enough for my skifi 2 and keeps it at just the right angle.

I have a roady and first go was to mount it in the cubby hole. I soon decided I was quickly going to leave what was left of my CTD fot the widow and kids to scrap over, so to speak. To much time with my eyes off the road trying to read and change the channels.

So I took the swivel mounting bracket that comes with the roady, made a semi-circular cut on one side with a drill mounted rasp bit, and mounted it in line and to the left of the three air control knobs. Now I can see and change easily. I'm planning on putting a dab of flourescent orange paint on number 5 for quick reference. Finger nail polish probably would work great too.

THenningsen: Can't do a pic but your on the right track

just find a piece of metal about 3/32 thick so as not to

be springy when pushing buttons on the XM bend the tin

to the proper angel screw it into the ashtray then mount the XM.

I'm able to veiw the controls just below the shift lever(auto)

but with the presets I rarely have to look at it... Chris

I have Sirius but figured that this may still help you... .

It is mounted to the ash tray and all of the wires go in the opening for the ash tray making for a very clean and easy to use install.

IMO this is the way to go if you have a mount like this for your XM.

heres mine... the sky-fi 2

on the rear of the cradle, I bent with heat, a piece of ABS plastic and bolted it to the cradle then screwed to the top of the cubby hole storage area.

I used a top from a can of spray paint and drilled a hole in it to let out excess air. I then took the mount and stuck it onto the top and slid it into the small cup holder and it stays there very nicely. Of course they have now come out with a mount to use in the cup holders afterwards. Belkin did the mount and if you look at the webiste below you may find a mount you like... ..... Andy

THenningsen,

i fabricated a bracket to fit the cubby hole. i mounted the xm head unit to the supplied (free) bracket. i positioned the bracket deep enough in the cubby hole to let the head unit sit flush and still allow some movement (not much).

my bracket was made of about 1/8in steel bent in the shape of [ . i drilled holes in the foot of the xm bracket and secured it with screws to the bracket i made. you could make the bracket out of plumbing strap if it is thick enough.

the bracket is mounted to the removable cubby hole pocket with additional screws. the short sides are slightly bent to follow the contour of the pocket.

i ran all the wires through the cubby hole and it ended up looking just like i wanted.

if i can help further let me know.

fwiw: i recently placed an order (antenna for company car) with myradistore.

the order has not arrived but the gentleman was very helpful. i would buy from them again.
