XM or SIRIUS and WHY?

After driving through Western Montana today without any radio reception I'm thinking about a one or the other.



Which one do you recommend and why? Which receiver is best for each?

I have ((XM)) radio using the Terk Commander unit. i listen to a lot of country, classic rock, comedy, and news so ((XM)) has a great lineup for my music prefrences. the subscriptions are about the same, and the programming is very similiar. the best thing to do is get program listings from both ((XM)) and Sirus, sit down and see which works out the best for ya! hope your search for satalite radio goes well. i know exactly what u mean by loosing radio while driving, and getting tired of listening to the same cd's!

Just put in XM today in my truck!! Went with Audiovox's XCS9 combo pack, everything I needed in one box!! First thing on the agenda at work tomorrow is to make a bracket to compliment the one that came with the unit, stocker just didn't "look right" to put unit where I want it. Hopefully if all goes well, I'll post some pics!! Oo.

Big Bob, I've got both, the XM in trk. , and Sirrius in the house, I'm going to drop the sirius cause I like the XM programing best. As far as receiving, they are the same. Just do like TurboD said, look over the programing and pick the one you like the best. The one in the trk. is over 2yrs old, Sony, and works great.

Can’t comment on Sirius, but I am very satisfied with my XM Commander.

I have both (XM in the Freightliner and Sirius in my Dodge). As soon as the XM is up in the Freight, I'm switching to Sirius. I just took a trip to Houston last week to pick up a car and I was flipping channels all the way there. I hate the DJ's on XM. Blah,blah, blah. They never shut up. People call in all the time. It's just like listening to broadcast radio without commercials. I also just put serius in my wife Suburban. I have a Clarion headunit in my truck and it is Sirius compatible, so all I had to do is add a tuner and antenna for it to run through the headunit, no external unit. In the Suburban I used the Blaupunkt SR04 (or something like that). Mounted it on the knee bolster up high right next to the steering column. Viewable, but out of the way.

Sirius supposed is better quailty but XM made it out the door first. I would go to both sites and go over the programming schedule to see what is to your liking. See which one has a unit you can use in the house... well... ... garage for the people here One of the services had a $500. 00 lifetime subscription which would easily pay for itself in a few years. JMHO

XM here, becasuse of the "ROADY 2" size and portabilty, You can use this unit as a walkman with an added kit, the Headphones act as the antenna. Plus I know that XM works in Canada.

I have XM in my truck and was considering switching to Sirrus for Stern but a friend rented a car with Sirrus and the reception was not nearly as good. He asked me if my XM has a static sound sometimes and it doesn't so I'm sticking with XM.

I've installed a Sirius Sportster in my Truck and a XAct unit in my parents Explorer. If you want NFL and NBA then get Sirius. XM only has NHL. As far as music, their about the same. Sirius is $12. 99 and this gets everything. Almost no commercials with Sirius. XM is around $9. 00 and theres extra coast that could get up to around $18. 00. XM does have commercials. Sound quality is better with Sirius. They use a different bandwidth allocation to improve the vocals heard and less for the talk radio stuff. For in the car dont use the included FM transmiter. They really sound bad. Use the Aux input on your deck. If your car doesnt have one of these but has an unused CD changer plug, you can get a adapter thru PIE (http://www.pie.net/ ). This gives you an Aux input. The other option is an FM modulator that plugs into your anttena port and then you plug your factory ant into this. When switched on it blocks incoming FM freqs thru your aerial ant. You just tune your radio to unused preset. The nice thing about the aux imput is you can play an MP3 player/I-Pod device thru this as well. Hope this helps, PM me if you have any other questions.

The static comes from the FM transmitter, not the reception of Sirius. The unit I put in my wife's Suburban had the static problem when I first installed it, but it came with an extra wire to plug in the back to improve the FM tansmission and ever since I did that, the reception has been fine.

I have two XM systems. I'm happy with them. Getting ready to have a third installed. $9. 95 per month for the first one, $6. 95 for additional. There are no extra charges for the basic XM programming.



The last XM system I had installed in my wife's Tahoe has a remote control that came with it. The Dodge will be getting one as soon as I have time to get it installed. XM also lets you block the signals from the garbage channels. Helpful, especially if you have kids you don't want exposed to the "extreme language" while flipping through channels.



I won't be contributing $150+ a year to Sirius so I can listen to Howard Stern's brand of "entertainment".

XM - Yeah they may talk a little but great sound and a lot of music. I like Fox talk and CNBC. Hannity is on XM also. I wish Rush was on XM. I have four sets of Pioneer speakers with Sub, two large amps and a great equalizer. The music sounds great because the signal is so pure as compared to local radio. I can be in the middle of no where and still pick up a great signal. Put in an aftermarket system with satellite and you'll never listen to anything else.
