Here is what I did to dress up the plain knob that was sent with the new Quad Box. It is a chrome barrell and washer I got at a ACE hardware. Now all I have to do is come up with #s 0-30-60-100 to put on there. Any Ideas?

It looks like your washer is too big and it's hitting the grey plastic below. Could you not center it? I mounted mine in a similar location, but with no additional washers. I just used the little retaining nut that is on the switch, and cut the switch shaft down until the switch is pretty much flush with the dash panel. I like the look you have going, it just looks off center.

I thought of doing what you did after I bought the chrome parts. The nut is behind the washer. I just may cut the shaft ditch the chrome barrell and keep the washer. Tomeygun suggested calling it a "Holy Crap-O-Meter". Put- 0=Neutered, 30=Cool, 60= Wow, 100= Holy Crap!

I have a big piece of foam behind that little black panel where you mounted yours. How did you get around that? I was worried about removing it.

look at my readers pics and see where and how I mounted mine. Way eaiser to read and get to. Sorry not a quad, its only a RAMIFIER.

Just finished installing the knob. I decided that the area above the parking brake release was best for me. I did have to drill a 1. 25 dia hole through the plastic reinforcement, but it is not a structural piece. Overall, I think it turned out to be a clean install.

I made a custom Screw collar which was a bit of a pain to find the right thread. Thread on switch ended up being a 3/8 X 32 TPI ! Made the collar out of 2024-T6 Alum I had in the garage. Handy having your own Lathe! LOL! I also turned a little off the back side of the knob to get a little more engagement on the switch post. Here are a couple of JPEGS of what I did. If anybody else is interested in a collar, PM me and I'll see what I can do for you! Paul

That is EXCELLENT! I really like it. Nice job. Makes me embarrased about my hack job. Drilled 3 holes in the steering column and it still isn't right

I placed mine on the bottom of the steering column shroud, on the right side, just forward of the ignition key. I wanted to put the switch in an easily replaceable panel in case I wanted to return to stock.

Thanks for the compliment! Sorry to hear you are having trouble mounting the switch where you want it. The small anti twist pin hole is about 3/16 from the edge of the 3/8 thread on the switch. I drilled it with a . 144 dia drill. Lines up well. I did re drill the locating hole to get the switch to clock where I wanted it. What type of problem are you having with your switch location? The location or the anti roll tab?

I like where you put that PGianoosa. That is the spot I should have put it. I like the piece you made too. Will ya make me one? Im only 180 or so miles from you.

No problem with the anti-roll tab. I just dremeled a slot so the pin would fit.

Hole 1. I first tried to mount the switch just forward of the key. Turns out the switch is too deep, so I had to pick a new spot.

Hole 2. Aaaaah, I'll just put it on the underside of the column. Felt around above where the switch would be and there's plenty of room. Drill, mount, sweet! Then I went to put the knee-panel plastic back and it wouldn't clear the switch.

Hole 3. I'll just move it closer to the steering wheel. Mounted it, put the panel back, and now I can't tilt the wheel below 1/2 way.

Hole 4---I will be drilling hole 4 in a new $69 panel from DC. It will arrive next week. I plan on measuring at least twice to make sure it's right this time.

Live and learn. It's only $$$

I too sometimes live by the mantra measure once and keep cutting till you cut too much then get a new piece and cut again with the old measurements! Been there and done that too many times to admit to! LOL! At least you don't have to spend a fortune on getting your fender fixed from when you backed into a wall at a car wash! :-laf Done that recently. Just got the front corner of Drive fender. Had to replace the headlamp, the Big"C" and shell out $500 for bump and paint.

D, Can make one for you, just need some dimensions. Email me and lets see what we can do. PmG

Take the washer to the mall and have it engraved. If the washer is chrome plated steel, toss it and get a stainless washer. Then have the st. st. washer engraved. I bet it'll cost $15 to have any font you want engraved on it.

exactly what i thought ...

even better when you get home from the engravers fill the engraved numbers with fingernail polish the same color as your truck ...

gently wipe off the excess and the numbers will be the same color as the truck

15 minutes to install the box 1 1/2 to install switch

i went in the blank square to the left of the steering column also

used a ss fender washer ... thinner easier

how come no one mentioned drilling a second tiny hole at 3 o'clock for the little tit on the switch that keeps it from rotating?

and whatever you do don't let the little tiny index washer fall off ...

it uncovers the "hidden levels" in the knob

hey quad if 3 is 140 what is 7 on the knob :D

it took me a couple of minutes to figure that one out

wife took her own dash out and drilled the hole where she wanted it

then i got to hear the old familiar

"what did you break this time?" when the knob suddenly had 7 positions

yep i could break an anvil

If anyone has the little positioning washer fall out, all you need to do is click the level all the way to the left(counter clockwise), and then set the pin of the washer into the hole marked 4. Took me a min to figure that out too after it fell off a few times. Double check that you got it right by verifying with the xzillaraider led colors.

I've got mine mounted right where Dwestfall does - without the silver piece. I simply cut down the shaft of the switch with my dremel until the knob is flush with the plastic panel. There is a foam piece behind there but I just tossed it.
