Any suggestions would be appreciated... .

Hinge pin towards rear (the one with the lever and plastic bushing)has done had it (y2k quad cab drivers door upper hinge). The plastic bushing is shot and stealer needs about 60$ for hinge.

1. Anyone know the years that this hinge is used on.

2. Anyone have a "Help" part # for the repair kit.

3. Any other ideas (besides the replacement hinge)?

No droop in the door - just the "SCREECH" when the metal to metal gets rubbing.

Dont even know if the pin is pened over and will nee to be ground/cut to be replaced... .

Yes, I'll ck with Mopar parts4less if this fails. . new hinge would need a paint job also.

It is a common problem, both the plastic bushing, and the roller bushing wearing out. The pins are punched or peened over. You can centre punch and drill them,or use a die grinder or dremel and grind them off.

Try a couple of body shops to find replacement bushings and a pin. You can also use a bolt as a pin as it makes it easy to remove. I used a bronze bushing to replace the plastic one. I had to drill out the hin slightly larger for the new pin, depends on what you use. A good repair will usually work better than a replacement hinge, plus you don't have to take the hinge off.

Great!!

Not the answer I wanted (work!) but it does give me the way to do it. . w/o painting (more $$ saved).

A BIG Thanks for the reply and "easier" solution (another 35$ well spent).

FIXED!!

Whell almost, gots to grease and pin the pin in but heres the solution I used:

1. got a 5/16 x 3. 5" bolt w/o the full threads and put in the empty hole to hold all the parts

2. used the Dremel to cut pin (about 12 disks for me - shaking and no lite)and then removed it (cut it at the upper part below the door flange - this let me pull it out with pliers and drift out the upper part from below)

3. put the bolt in place of orig pin so could drive to get parts (could skip this step if you have everything together)

4. got the HELP 38382 Door Hinge Repair kit (also listed as DORMAN 702-275). This kit has 2 pins and 4 bushings. The silver pin is too short (2. 44) but got spare bushings for later. The longer pin could be trimed but I plan to drift it in and drill a hole on the lower portion to put a wire in (just in case it tries to back up).

5. put the bolt back in the forward holes to keep everything in alignment and prevent the "lever" from flying out in next step

6. get tools needed to remove the bushing that is still in the lever hole (is soft metal and I just used a screwdriver and hammer to beat it into the hole till it fell out)

7. clean up the mess and grease the bushing and pin before putting bushing in the hole (fit snug) and then put pin in **** CAUTION**** DON'T FORGET TO REMOVE THE 5/16" BOLT after this:confused:

8. remove the 5/16" bolt - try the door :{ -- VOLA!!!! it works and for the price (about 6$) I still have 3 more bushings to use as they wear out.

9. info for the dimensions (in case you can't find this kit - listed for the 66-74 Mopars' too many to list- Valiant,Dart,Coronet, etc):

Pin: . 340 dia 3. 41 lng (2. 6 and up would work but a 2. 5 would be short)

Bushing: . 345 id . 420 od . 445 ht (tall - this could go as short as . 305) flange is not measured on back of the package

Will get another kit for the pass door and then have PLENTY of bushings... :D:D DC take your hinges @ 60$+ and stuff them where it don't shine often

Hope this helps someone save some BIG $$$... .

Oh, took about 1. 5 hours with all the running around/etc. Having the parts together - probably about 1/2 hr.

PS: I did remove the bolt from the hinge BUTT I can see the RAM-ifactions if not done... cuss words and not the nice ones like s/h/i/

Glad to hear it worked out well. Feels great when you can fix something yourself, and make it better in the process, all for a few bucks.

Good post Ben, I'll bookmark this for later, when I'm ready to do mine. I didn't realize there was a neat set of holes through which a bolt could be used to keep everything aligned. At least DC thought of something worthwhile.

I want to say thanks for the beneficial Post:D . I spent half a day last week trying to find pins and bushings for my drivers door. Bushing broke and giving me a fit. Autozone had a part # but told me that it was a part # they do not sell:rolleyes: Auto parts told me the new book listed the long pin/ short pin but it didn't look close when I eyeballed it. I just decided I would wait till a day I 1) couldn't get in or out any more or 2) had time to fix it. Thanks.

Poured down rain today so went to Auto Zone and picked up 2 sets of Help/MightyMite 38382 /Doorman 702-275 Bushing and pin kits. After studying them I am thinking about using a 27/64 bit and drilling out the top hole so I can put in two bushings and use the long pin in the set. what do you think???? Cost was $10. 65 including tax for two kits.
