Commercial Ranges

I searched the forum to see if anyone had commented about the new Yamaha Rhino and suprisingly no one has. We've had our eyes on getting a Polaris Ranger for quite awhile and know people that are really happy with them. Then came the Rhino 660 4x4. Similar setup as the Grizzly which are really nice ATV's. A few questions to those that have heard or know about them, or have one. How do you like it? Do you have to register it the same as you would an ATV? If you buy one in Oregon or Montana can you avoid paying sales tax? How much are these things marked up? The MSRP is 8499-8899. Does anyone know how much less dealer invoice is on Yamaha's and how low will they go? If anyone knows of a place to get a great deal buying a new Yamaha anywhere on the West Coast (CA, NV, UT, OR, ID, MT, AZ, CO) please let me know.

I liked the sound of the Rhino also until I checked out the payload capacity. It can only haul 400 pounds in the bed. The Polaris has it whooped. I'm wanting one for use on my farm and the Polaris blows the Rhino away for work capacity. Check out Lake Hill motors in Mississippi for prices on Yamaha products. That thing sure sounds neat except for it's work hauling ability though.

We now are converting to the John Deere Gators and I have to say I am split on the decision. You can load it till you are blue in the face (Our 4X2 is rated for 500) I had 800 worth of traprock in it easily and I was wowed! Whats more was the ability when the rear diff is locked. She is a climber!

Bummer department is no rear suspension.

Remember the ATC 110? ... Yup the rear tires are the suspension.

The diesel 6X4 is the King Daddy forloading , hauling.

I've got a friend with a large foxtrotter raising ranch that has gators. Seem to be trouble free but I wouldn't take them offroad hunting or riding without a large pillow for the backside. The Polaris also has a 1000 pound payload capacity compared to the Rhino's 400 and the Polaris can tow up to 1500 pounds. Along with having high ground clearance and excellent climbing abilities.

We bought a Ranger 4x4 last year, and have been extremely happy with it in all respects. It is FAST, will climb over anything, is well balanced, and can haul whatever you want while riding like a Cadillac.

A lot of our friends that have Gators have either sold or traded them for Rangers.

One thing that we learned is that there are two lines of Rangers available, a general one that you normally see in dark green, and a commercial line that is normally yellow. Basically the only difference is the color, but you can get all kinds of goodies for the commercial line, like a REAL cab, instead of the cloth Jeep-like cab that we have with zipper doors.

We use ours for everything aruond the farm, from towing mowers to setting high-tensile fence lines with a spinning jenny we rigged on the back. We even had Agro-Chem make up a 50 gal. sprayer with 8' extending wands and a hand wand for it. Works like a charm.

Before the Ranger, we had a pair of Grizzly's and really loved the powerplant. When the Rhino literature came out, Dad picked some up, but after seeing the payload capacity, etc. we decided to stay with the Ranger.

FWIW.

Pricing?

How much are ATV's and Rangers/Rhinos marked up? How much under the MSRP is a good deal? How much did you guys pay for your 4x4 Polaris Rangers? I failed to notice the difference in payloads between the Polaris and that Yamaha, thanks for pointing that out.

We bought ours a little over a year ago, and it was just under 10k with the options that we got, like the electric over hydraulic bed hoist, side kit for the bed, windshield and cab enclosure kit, and of course the shift-on-the fly 4wd with locking rear diff.

I have been considering a utility vehicle similar to these, but my vote would have to go to either the John Deere Gator or the Kawasaki Mule because I want a DIESEL!!!!!

I have and LOVE a Polaris diesel ATV, but have wondered why they don't even OFFER a diesel in the Ranger. I love a Polaris, but would most likely not have bought one if it had not been for the diesel (sold a Honda 300 to get it). I test drove a Kawasaki Mule and will most likely get theirs because I like the diesel option and that it seems more "all terrain" than the John Deere, but it would still be a toss-up between the two or anyone who offers a diesel at the time... .

I like the Mules but the biggest drawback is their top speed is only 23 mph compared to 41mph for the Ranger. The Rhino has a 38 mph top speed. Polaris should go with a 3 cylinder Kubota diesel engine in the Ranger 4X4. :D That diesel engine option on the mule sure bumps the price up a bunch. I've got 2 mules but both of mine burn hay and grain for fuel. :D
