My buddy owns a lawn service and they have a John Deere F1145 lawn mower along with a 455 and an X495 all with Yanmar diesel engines. The problem is from day one when they bought the 1145 it has been low on power. It is rated higher than all the others but in actuality has much less power. It has been in the John Deere implement many times to look at it and they keep saying everything is fine. He is wondering if there is anything he can do to get the correct amount of power out of that engine. If anyone knows how to turn the pump up a bit on these please reply, because this mower is almost new but doesn't get used much because of the low power problem. Thanks in advance for your replies

Yanmars are infamous for there exaggerated power numbers, at least in the marine industry. There claim to fame is a small lightweight, high hp diesel. But what you soon find out it is that they are not putting out what they claim. We had quite a few complaints from people that went from 200hp Volvo's to something equivalent in a yanmar and be down quite a bit in power, even with the weight savings. Besides that they are OK motors, a ***** to work on in a boat however, but we stopped carrying yanmars in 01 because of the power issue.

GREAT TIMING.

I was considering a "good deal" on a Yanmar farm tractor. It's rated 40HP, but now I suspect that it wouldn't be as strong as my 35HP Duetz Allis. And that just will not cut it.

Yanmar in a John Deere.

John Deere is not in the small tractor business. The yanmar engine used in the John Deere is not the same as the one used in the Yanmar itself. Deere orders their engines without some of the good stuff. Also, the Yanmar equipment is made to be passed down to next of kin. They have lots of advantages in the long run and take longer to break in. If you need to go to a slightly smaller mower, it's worth doing so !! With half decent care, the darned things will keep on ticking year after year !!

Yanmar tractors are made in Japan. Along with Iseki, Shibuara and others. We import and sell quite a few of these tractors.

Yanmar Diesel;

The Yanmar is made in Japan.

The green painted machines (under 52 hp) were made in the same building. Few people know that the green machine has the Yanmar engine in it !!

People would sometimes come into my store to say that they decided to buy the US product instead of the Yanmar I had shown to them.

I would show them the picture of the Yanmar factory which showed a green machine along side of the Yanmar !! You are right, the green paint is a lot more expensive. . especially if one knows what the differences are in the two machines.
