Prep trk for cold

SpinnerII oil filtration anyone?

This is my current tank with 278. 8 miles on it.

#ad

This is mostly CITY driving. I had about 100 miles of 75mph on there, too.

Shortbed= slightly smaller tank.

For reference, I'm usually at the HALF tank mark at this mileage.

Tire pressure is 55F 50R, oem rubber (265 Michelin).

You may not find this impressive, but this is thus far the best mileage tank in mixed driving I have EVER had. It's actually on pace to surpass most of my HWY mileage numbers!!!

The difference? LUBE CONTROL AND FUEL POWER!

MPGs

Looks good BUT lets see what the math works out to be at fill up time. My needle moves kinda slow at first but picks up speed as the miles add up. :-laf

I posted this because it's NOT normal for my truck!

I track mileage every tank, and usually at 278 miles it's coming up on half a tank. Sometimes it hits half tank BEFORE 278 miles.

I track "mileposts" as the tank level drops. Before it took ~ 60 miles for the needle to start moving off full.

It would hit 7/8 right around 120 miles.

3/4 Would be around 170 miles

5/8 would be right around 200.

1/2 would be 260-280.

See why this is soo significant to me? Now, the above milestones occur MUCH later than before (more miles).

I noticed a little better MPG after I first installed the M4 injectors.

But the huge change came when I put some Fuel Power (FP60) into the tank. This is the first tank in which I've tried the additive. It's also the first to give me much improved mileage! COINCIDENCE? Perhaps, but not likely.

I couldn't find in the product description... Does it prevent gelling in winter? How does it affect cetane numbers? What exactly is it comprised of? My '96 is only running about 16 mpg using either PS or Howes every fill up.

I am very interested to see your numbers.

Justin... I wasn't takin a shot at you I was just pointing out that my trip OD moves kinda slow at the top of the guage. If in fact you do see large increases I too would definately be interested... .

Justin,

Potentially very Impressive. But you know the only way to determine whether its the additive giving you better mileage is watch fuel economy over many tanks and compare that with the average over many previous tanks sans additive...

-Ryan

Agreed. I'm gonna keep an eye on it. I have a little more additive in it because it's the "initial" dose.

I'm wondering of MPG is up because the add increases the energy in the fuel, or because of any cleaning effect.

Regardless, I LOVE this stuff. The truck runs better than ever. It smells good, too.

Big thanks to the folks over on BITOG for turning me on to the stuff.

Yes-- it's noticeable.

I'd bet some competitive types could really benefit from s strong brew of this stuff (Say a gallon or more in a tank).

Don't get surprised!

If it's too good to be true, then it probably is. Watch your odometer and trip meter. My 01 truck appeared to start getting some very decent mileage after I put the FASS on. But I ran out of fuel at about the 1/3 full position on the fuel level indicator. Appears my fuel level transmitter/float/what ever it's called malfunctioned. I got to depend on the odometer more than the fuel gauge. About 400 miles was my comfort zone and not much more. Less with the camper on.

Not trying to bust your good mileage. Be cautious!

BF

That's why I always reset the trip ODO when I fill up. I asssume that the needle is going to malfunction or go out.

The proof (or lack) will be when I fill up.

Are sending unit failures common with only 40K miles?

Oh, by the way, It finally hit 3/4 tank. Mileage is 304 total on this tank.

fill it up now, what do you have to lose? that will give you a better gauge for the next test.

eliminate the uncertain :)

better oh *****, guess what :-laf

Yes they will change. Just like you I always knew how much fuel was left by the 1/4 tank lntervals. At around 45000mi. the mileage for the first half tank went way up. When I filled up at the 1/2 level was surprised to find I only had about 10 to 12 gallons left in the tank at the 1/2 mark.

I attribute it to the nasty dirt road to my house pounding that poor sender to death.

Hope yours is due to better mileage. That always makes me Oo. for joy.

I just purchased some FP60 last night. It should be here by the end of the week. First off, I have never added any kind of additive since I bought my truck 20k miles ago. I figured it was over due. Also, if it will help out the fuel mileage, I'm all about it. I checked my miles at 3/4 tank last night and it was 150. Ouch, not even close to your 300. I'll let you guys know the results when I get it. By the way, it was only $11. 00 for the small bottle, which should last a while.

Depending on what additive I use, it will throw off the accuracy of my fuel gauge. It has happend several times so I know it is not a fluke, I just don't know why it happens

My sender has been out for a while. DONT TRUST THE GAUGE!!!

I was told by someone that works a dealership that it is VERY common for these trucks. Fill it up now and do the math!

OK, I couldn't stand it any longer!!

I filled up as full as I could get it (fillneck). Same station, same pump, even.

Mileage was (drum roll, please... )

18. 3!!

Now, before we all realize that this isn't that impressive, let me break this down for you. Of the 328. 4 miles driven, only about 100 was hwy. And this was driving almost 80 with lotsa WOT passing because Ft. Collins has some nutsos they put on I-25.

Of the remaining ~228 miles driven, ALL was in town. My truck's typical usage every day is this: cold start, drive 4 miles to work, shut off. Cold start, drive home for lunch and then back to work. Cold start, drive home from work. Once in a while I get to put 20 miles or so on it at once if I run some errands around town. This isn't often.

So, considering the sheer weight of the truck, the fact it's a 4x4, and all the other factors that all CTD have in common, I am VERY impressed with the mpg this time.

I'm also curious now more than ever about the impact of the FP60 fuel additive, both on the actual fuel economy, and on the fuel gauge's approximation of quantity remaining in the tank.

There ya have it. I'd highly encourage a person to try the Fuel Power additive. At least one tank. I know that within 150 miles or so, my truck ran noticeably smoother and felt more responsive. It only has 41K on it, so how dirty could it have been?

Mpg

Hmmm...

There might be something to it. I typically get about 18 mpg with most of mine on the freeway commuting. Has suffered abit since adding the 275s (fun factor) and since my hours have changed my commute home is in some of the worse commuter traffic in the US.

If you notice a difference thats all that matters but like you said..... The numbers aren't that impressive. I think if I had a little better "right foot control" I could probably creep up on 20 mpg.

Keep us posted on your mileage. Do you have any trips planned in the immediate future? Would really be curious to see what kind of numbers you see on a trip down the interstate...

Clay

18.3 is awesome

The best Ive ever gotten is 17. 5 MPG for mostly highway isn,t that great. With my profile I thought it was pretty awesome,I wasn't driving real gently either,Kind a hard with a Duramax or a Power Stroke pulling up beside me. On this trip I was using Redline additive.
