Don't get me wrong the GTR is definitely a engineering marvel. I think it's been posted that a
full throttle launch in the GTR ultilizing the feature they call "launch control" for max acceleration can damage the trans. It's this method that gives the car the outstanding "out of the hole" performance. I also read that Nissan is invalidating the warranty if they read the ECM and find this abuse. Heck, even a full throttle clutch side step on a Z06 allowing the rear wheels to hop violently can destroy a half shaft or worse.
On another note, you can get a 2008 Z06 for $12,000 to $15,000 off the msrp if you shop around. The 2009 Z06's can be had for $10,000 off or more. (I wish I had waited awhile longer before purchasing my 08 Z. ) This is a heck of a deal for a 3162 lb. vehicle that can go
0 to 60 mph in 3. 7 seconds and run the quarter in
11. 7 seconds, go nearly 200 mph and get mid to high 20's mpg on the highway. Seelink:

Well, the ZR1 is another beast all together but since they are in high demand dealers are still getting over MSRP for the most part. This equates to almost double the price of a discounted Z06 which in my book is just not the value the Z06 is.
Most folks can't even begin to use the power, (505hp at the crank) the Z06 has and if it wasn't for the traction control / active handling I believe many novices would have "wrapped them around a telephone pole".
:-laf However, if you need more power just get a stock Z06 and add the new Eaton TVS supercharger that MTI Racing in Marietta, Georgia intalls and you can have over 700 hp at the rear wheels. Go here and click on the supercharger link to watch Reese Cox explain the upgrade:
Welcome to MTI Racing!
Oo.
I was fortunate enough to attend an open house dyno day at MTI Racing and was awestruck. It was a horsepower festival. My stock Z with only about 1700 miles put down 453 rwhp, (it's stock however), on a hot day and was one of the lower horsepower Vettes that was tested. All the modded Vettes pulled over 500rwhp with several in the 600's. The MTI racing supercharged Z06 put down 733hp that day with a torque curve like our diesels. As I said earlier it was a rush for sure.
Now I just have to wait 4 1/2 more years for my GM warranty to run out and hit the lottery to get mine supercharged!!!
