See signature for truck specifics. Last night with cruise control set on ~45-49mph the little yellow engine light came on. :{ The tachometer went to 0rpm, MPH, Temps, boost, FP, & EGT were all fine. Oh no, what now! I pulled to the side of the road and shut off the engine, it wasn't really 0 it was still running. Checked the owners manual, it said to take it to the shop, fuel economy and performance could suffer, or some such related thing. At the rear of the motor, the connection to the EZ may have been loose I thought I heard it click when I was wiggling stuff and looking under the hood. I checked for codes, I’ve seen that question here enough. This is what I got.

P0341

Camshaft Position Sensor Signal

P1693

DTC Detected In ECM Or PCM

It ran just fine on the way home and the light went away on the dash. The codes are still there. Whatchathink

1) Could have been the EZ loose.

2) Could also have bee the cam position sensor acting up.

Some codes are cleared with a few trips without the problem reappearing. Uou can try the following:

1) Disconnect batteries for 30 minutes.

2) While thye are disconnected clean all commections. Use some battery terminal spray when putting it together.

3) The code may stay locked till reset.

I had something similar happen a year ago. It wasn't the tach but (if I remember right) the oil pressure & the check engine light. I shut her down & looked things over. Not seeing anything I started back up & every thing was fine again. No problems since & I never knew what happened.

Camshaft Position sensor going south. Earlier years it is the crankshaft position sensor. Either ones have the same symptoms, 0 RPM. It will get worse over time. My understanding is that the Cam sensor is alot harder to change as it is behind the VP44. Go to Cummins or order from a place on line. Stay away from DC unless it is warranty 5yrs/100k and you want it fixed that way although all bombs will need to be removed as they will probably find a way to void said warranty. I have had very good response and service from these people.
