YellowStone NP

Trying to plan a trip to Yellowstone. My wife and I did a 2 week National Park trip when we were still dating back in July 2002 and yellowstone was one of them. Now that we have a camper we would like to go again. Anyone stay at the fishing bridge camp area or the KOA in West Yellowstone? Any comments on either or other camp grounds in the area?

I have camped at the West Yellowstone entrance, but don't remember if it was the KOA or not. Nice area to camp in. We didn't try to camp in any of the campgrounds in Yellowstone itself. I believe all of the campgrounds in the park are first come, first served and we wanted to be able to reserve a site. Enjoy your trip.

We stayed at Fishing Bridge 2 years ago and they do take reservations. Nice park. We were there late May and it snowed with temps hanging in the 30-40 range. The Campground is very close to Yellowstone lake (I think that is the name). Be sure to make reservations early as they fill up quickly.

I know for a fact that Fishing bridge and Bay Bridge take reservations.



Look here. I stayed at Bay Bridge, but next time I will stay at fishing bridge for the hookups. We spent very little time at the trailer and having hookups for showers and such would of been nice.

I havnt been there personally but my girlfriends parents have been there a few times. They said that the place where they parked was built a long time ago and most of the newer longer 5th wheels dont fit in the parking spaces. They had trouble fitting and theirs is only like 20 or 25 ft. I remember them saying to book early because they do fill up fast.

Our 5th wheel is 32' and we had plenty of room.

Stayed there several times. Fishing Bridge is just a step up from a parking lot but they do have connections. When we stayed there we did not mind because it got us closer to the attractions we were looking for. The Fishing Bridge, if I recall, was towards the east side of the park and there fore closer to those attractions but if you are looking for attractions on the west side I would recommend the campgrounds on the outside of the park. If I recall it was something like the Grizzley RV park. A little expensive but very clean and well laid out.

What about the east entrance road to cody, is it still under constuction? My info was that a lot of bridge work was being done, with traffic delays. A group of us are going in July.

Yes Marv, the road to the east entrance across Sylvan Pass is still under construction. Believe it was scheduled as a 5 yr. project and last year was the first year. The northeast entrance at Cooke City will get you into and out of Cody through some beautiful country although it's certainly longer distance wise.

I stayed in Grant Village. Got a campsite right on Yellowstone Lake. It was beautiful & inexpensive. However, no hook-ups.



My trip took me from Jackson Hole, WY. , through Grand Teton NP. I stopped at a campground (with a large hotel) just outside the South Gate of Yellowstone. Their prices were 'very expensive' & the campground was pretty much a piece of dirt with a picnic table. You had to go into the hotel to pay but, I asked to see the campsite before paying. After seeing what I was going to get for my money, I left (ANGRY!!!!!).



From there, I headed into the Park & while at the gate, asked about availability of camping, in the Park. The, very nice, young woman at the gate, sensing my anger, told me that there were vacancies at Grants Village & sent me there. It turned out to be a great experience at a reasonable price.

We have stayed at Fishing Bridge and Grant Village and prefer Grant Village because it's not as tight between campers, however as Joe Buffalo said, no hook ups. Since we had an on-board generator, it wasn't a problem. Another great campground is just inside the Grand Tetons NP on the Jackson side. It is a US Federal campground with no hook ups and plenty of space around each site. I can't remember the name of the campground. We plan on just staying there next time and commute to Yellowstone NP and Jackson.

Road repair is a on going thing up there. We was there in 06 and heard work was being done then. A friend was there last year, it's still going on. that is way I was wondering, We as a group 8-10 rigs going that way in July. So, do you think the road might be passible?, with some delay? Wydot and the Yellowstone road repair info does not give much information. Guess i'll give them a call when the weather breaks and poeple get there to work.

MLee, the road is always passable, it's just that it will likely be gravel/dirt/mud and there are limited times on when they let vehicles through. If I remember correctly, they close the road from sometime in the early evening until early morning the next day. You might check with the Cody Chamber of Commerce as the summer progresses. They will have first hand info. The road work before last year was on the highway outside the park boundary, and last year they started inside the park. fwiw

Grizzly in West Yellowstone is a premium park. Right in town ,walk to evrything. 3Bears restuarant on the corner has a good steak dinner.
