Post your towing and hauling pictures here! (part 2)

Short haul but it's sure oversized...

I didn't walk down to the Madison and pitch a fly into the river... it was moving fast when we were there... and frankly after all day in the park we were tired... and we'd just come from some really great trout fishing on Georgetown Lake in MT... we'd met some other couples and caught our limit for 5 days straight. .

I would assume the campground is full all summer... . but the checkout date is posted on the 6x6 post in front of each sight, so a quick trip through the campground would tell you who is getting ready to move out and when... for us it was great... we're ok with water and sewage for 6-8 days if we're careful...

BTW they do NOT allow you to use one of those blue carts... and dump your sewage into the pit toilets... the closest RV dump is 3 miles away... I was close to fresh water... and ran a hose to fill my fresh water tank...

Hope this answers your questions...

Jelag - thanks - I couldn't find it because I was looking for sites I could reserve, which, as you point out, these can't be. I wonder how full they are during the summer?

We stayed @ bakers hole last Auguest got in there just after noon. Thats the best time for the first come first serve thing. And the nfs is going to put more power outlets in the camp ground in the future. Because of the size of my rig most camp grounds in Yellowstone cannot accommidate me. I tried for two months to get into Fishing bridge through the reservations and could not get in. Then I talked to the office @ FB, they pulled strings and moved reservations and I got in for three days. So I go to Bakers Hole cause I know I can find a place there and its close when I first arrive If I cann't get into the park.

September is a good time to go. The Rutt is starting for the Elk and they are bunching up and the bulls are fisty, but go the last ten or so days of September, still alot of people but a lot better time to go. Just check out the closing time of the sections of the park, with mammoth up north being first to shut down and working south, each a few days apart. Enjoy.

OK I think i have my trip planed out. Yellow stone here we come :) Going to hit the tourist spots on the way out. Badlands, wall drugs, mount Rushmore, needles highway, crazy horse, bear tooth, and what every we have time for.

Jerry,

I have been to the Badlands several times to visit friends who own the campground in Interior, SD. The campground is 2 miles outside the National Park. The Badlands National Park campground has room for a lot of improvement. I believe this is going to happen in the near future.

When you leave the Badlands travel Highway 44 towards Rapid City. It is a scenic route between Interior and Rapid City. Make sure you spend some time in Custer State Park in the Black Hills it is also very worthwhile.

This may have been covered earlier in the thread. But very near one of the entrances for the badlands is a really cool old dugout homestead. I believe it was last lived in about 1947. But it is a national historic site, and is preserved as if the early homesteader still lived there. I always like to drop by there because my grandmother actually lived in a couple of those in the late 1800 and very early 1900's
