ok it's been a while, but I have updated the fueling box summary and included two additional boxes in the comparative matrix (I have added "doug's report" pages for Bullydog and EZ). you can view the background article here (skip to the bottom if you want to go directly to the product matrix page). Or the gist of the background article is in issue 45 of the TDR

Doug,

Have you asked the moderators if they could make your matrix a "sticky" so that it will always be on the first page? This contains so much useful information, and new members just joining the site are unaware of its existance.

Just a thought. Moderators ??

Update

Doug,

As always, good job. Nice updates. The info just keeps pouring in. Looks like that time they gave you off for your surgury sent you on a mission.

Doug,

For the BullyDog, you don't mention the 2004. 5, which is out now. What's interesting is the the BullyDog site states:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

"The Torque Dog 600 stretches the fuel pulse and is sure to add a smile to those that recently purchased the new 600 model. "

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

So the BullyDog box for the 600's must be a duration box and not a pressure box. Make sense? Wonder if it will have the same EGT problems as the VanAakin?

I think it is the VA module??

What about your thoughts on the predator series from Dr. Performance? I know he is not very well though of here, but his programmers appear to adding a significant increase in mileage.

Carl

the Bullydog box for the 600 is in fact the VA duration box. I verified that myself when I walked in to a Bullydog dealer and pulled the "600" box off the shelf to read it. sure enough, Van Aaken C3. 2. be careful guys, that one has very little useful horsepower on the 600s due to the very high EGTs.

I have a Predator stage 3 I think it is but I haven't tested it yet. Its a pressure box just like the others and I don't see any technical evidence the the Predator would yield any better fuel economy than any other pressure box in the same HP range. don't get fooled by mfg claims. Boxes that cannot anything except what they hook up to.

Qzilla -Question

Qzilla,

When are you going to have your box for the 600? I am going to give Doug's theory a try and stack it with the CP3 level II.

Right now I have the VA level I stacked with it, and it's okay, but it is missing the high rpm go.

We have a 75 hp adjustable pressure module available now. It is adjustable in the cab and has 0-35-75hp settings. It plugs in about like everything else.

We have a pressure and timing module on the way, but we are waiting on the harnesses to be completed. There should be a normal 100hp module that keeps pressures below 26000psi and then a race module that makes 130-140hp. Both will have a timing only setting worth 25ish hp. The will be a total of 4 positions including stock.

There is a bunch of people from here that will be beta testing for us. IF I could just get those dang harnesses we could be running the timing modules!

yes Doug nice job on the write up. "don't get fooled by mfg claims" just what the whole issue of the tdr is about, and I might add one of the best I have seen. hats off to all not just Doug :) .

Doug,

I was reading your update and am a little worried about the HPCR factory pop off safety valve. Would I notice it immediately if it happened to my truck? What would be the symptoms and approximately how much would it cost to get it fixed?

I run an EZ on 3 and 4 and have noticed what I think is power loss. I've been telling myself that I'm just getting desensitized to the power. How can I be sure my pop off valve hasn't opened?

Thanks... for the great research on the different boxes.

Hey Doug,

I noticed in the Dyno for the EZ + VA C3. 2 that it was on the SO engine. It got hot at 2900 RPM with the SO. How do you think these power levels and EGTs might differ on the HO 305/555 with the same boxes and settings?

You have a GREAT report. Oo. Thanks!

DLeno, Pacific performance has a new box out,Claims three setting stock,75hp,130hp. boost, timing, duration, does all three that what they say.

I haven't been able to locate a dyno run for the C3. 2 on an HO. I expect the power gains and EGTs would be simliar, given that both engines have room to give in the duration department. But lets not jump to conclusions on the power levels. One thing I can tell you is that the C3. 2 runs hot as a pistol on the HO truck as well. Duration without a timing advance results in a net retardation of timing.

I became recently aware of a Pacific Performance 130 HP box that was creatively reported (flyweel HP) and appeared to be a pressure box. But not aware of a timing/duration box. can you point me to this one?
